Default 1954 Topps Backs

Anyone know or have any idea about why the backs on the 1954 Topps
baseball are reversed or flip-flopped. It sure makes it a pain in the butt
to put cards in order.

This happens because of how the cards were printed on the sheets(before being cut). They were printed top edge to top edge (or bottom edge to bottom edge) on the front and white to white on the back. See the images of the uncut sheets (not mine, unfortunately) for a visual explanation.

Thanks for the photos. That explains it. The printers never thought about the
poor little 65 year old kids like me putting the set together by the numbers
and what a pain it would be. It really screws up the viewing of the backs when you put them in sheets. 201/250 to complete the set.

Default Topps

Maybe they did sit around saying lets do it this way so we can mess with that 65 year old kid later . It apparently did not bother them to skip card numbers once in awhile to keep 6 year old kids buying packs to look for the missing numbers

I have felt the same way about that set, thankfully it was a one and done for Topps placing the cards on the sheet that way. Good luck finishing the set up!

I always wondered why the 54Ts have no top white border. Live and learn.

Oh yeah, I hadn't even thought of that. That makes sense when you see the sheet. I always thought that it was a really odd choice by Topps to have no top border.
