Hey folks,
Slow day at work so thought I would throw this one out for a mini discussion. I am anticipating my delivery today of a card I bought from a "suspect" ebay transaction. I think it is good (at least I hope it is and will know in a few hours via US mail).....any thoughts? best regards, leon
ps...I do have a guarantee otherwise would not have bitten....

Leon

The card looks fine from different angles.
Top Right corner chip seems fine also.

I can't count how many times I went back to check that listing, but I sure wasn't the only one.... lol

Over 580 page views...

Hope is the real thing!

I must have looked at this card 100 times myself. I almost pulled to trigger but I've been burned way to many times on eBay lately. Please let us know when you get the card. I'm very excited for you. If it is real, you got one hell of a deal. I hope you didn't have to pay the asking price, but even if you did it would still be a steel. E-mail me and let me know what happens!
Trevor

and it looks real.....potentially a good find......I am sending overnight to SGC for their opinion. I spoke with a hobby expert and he said he thought it was good.......here's to crossing my fingers and hoping (knock on wood)....best regards all......ps..the sellers rating looked too good to be a flake is why I continued to follow up on it AND he offered the guarantee

Congrats Leon. We "good old boy" collectors look on in envy as you continue to buy those "high-dollar" cards.

...over in the right-hand corner? Wish the scan was a little clearer.

Leon.....looks thin to me. Is it the same thickness as an Old Judge or so? The team cards are pretty thick cards normally. The reason I think it looks thin is because it curls up a little on the one side. I had one of the Athletics that I sold a year or so ago on ebay and it brought in the 4K range or so.

so she said Now back to the card. When I got it a couple days ago I looked it over very well. It had the same look and feel of my other Kalamazoo card. The end being folded up resembled the Kelly Four Base Hits card I have also. I think I am 99% sure it is a real card. The one thing I am not positive about is the fact it "could" be rebacked. I don't think so but I guess it could be possible as the picture came to within a millimeter of the end of the cardboard. The "thickness" is right though and everything else is fine. (and believe me I looked at it very, very closely)....I did not have a loupe at work so could not loupe it ..as I had to get it out to SGC the same day. Did not want to waste time with the seller still guaranteeing the card. NOW the small problem is that the SGC folks are at a show today doing grading so I won't know till Monday dang it !!......best regards all....BTW Tom if you sold a nice one for 4k someone got a real good deal..

If yours has the back on it, it was in better shape than the one I sold. The one I sold had a little paper loss in the picture of the front although it was on the white part of one of the guy's uniforms so it didn't detract completely. They are VERY scarce (not as scarce as the KB Cabinets for teams though). Mine also had some pencil writing on the back about who the players were from the period. I believe it may have went in the $4500 range because I remember paying about $2800 for it. If your's is thick enough (the card that is) then the card's a beauty. Plus.....Boston is a more desireable team than the Athletics that I sold (at least to me it would be). Congrats!

That stinks! Are they going to slab it when it comes back real? That's a dumb question, what I ment to say is, do they slab the Kalamazoo cards?

I should know on Monday although will not physically get it back till Tuesday. Lee Iskowitz said that, if good, they will slab it. I know that runs contrary to some folks liking but so what. It's mine and I already got to fondle it....:) best regards (crossing my fingers in Alaska)

I respect your view about slab cards.
Your 19thcenturyonly article explains the whole situation to me.

Not everybody here had to THINK about grading a FBH Kelly...
In fact, as you wrote, you can always take the card out to "FEEL" it again...

Regards

JL
