Default My First N172 Purchase! Did I do okay?

Hello everyone I finally broke down and purchased my first old judge card. It is Seard of Toronto. I paid 120 for it. Did I do okay? Can my fellow collectors tell me more about this card? Is it tough or is it one of the more common ones. Most important, does it look real? Thanks as always for any info

Tony

Nice card, is the left border trimmed?

Very nice image, condition not so great, not sure about rarity. Price could maybe have been a few bucks less but in the ballpark for that card.

Default Thanks everyone

Thanks guys. I am not sure if the left board has been trimmed or if it is miscut. The card has a uneven slant on the left boarder though. I had done a little research on the cards and I thought Toronto was an oddball team find. I was very excited to finally buy one. I was very happy with how clear the image is as well. I picked it up at the Moeller High School show this morning in Cincinnati.

1- Yes, that's the real deal.

2- Billy Serad was one of the star pitchers for the Toronto Canucks.

3- Great pickup!! Try not to leave him in bright light for long periods of time. I've seen a few of these framed on walls, and the sunlight wears 'em out.

$120 for that card? Believe me, that is a great price and a great first OJ, especially for that price.

Tony

I have an OJ with a similar cut on side of card. It appears miscut. I sent it to SGC and they graded it without qualifier.

Don't think it's trimmed, looks like a natural cut to me. Nice card.

Default Thanks for the info

Thanks for the additional info guys. I thought I had stumbled on something good as I had never seen a Toronto player in my random ebay searches from time to time. More reason why I love this board.

I've watched one of those sell on ebay last year. It had a slightly darker image, and a slightly heavier crease. I think it sold for around 600. I thought the price was high but the card is IA, which is not really common.

You did good in general, great for a card show. imo

The only N172 I own is a copy of this Serad card [SGC Authentic]. When I bought mine it was the first time I had ever seen a Toronto N172 for sale. In the years since, I've seen it appear from time to time, but it's still a reasonably tough card to track down.

There are two other N172s that feature Toronto players. They seem to be extremely rare as far as N172s go. I have never seen either of the them for sale.

Regards,

Richard.

Default That is mine on ebay

That card was put up by me on ebay. I have limited funds to run with and there are other old judge cards I would eventually like to get. I wonder why a few board members think it is okay to flip cards sometimes but when I do it they attack me and make me feel like a bad person for doing it. I am not naming names but one of the people who just commented in this thread was the person who told me I need to get out of collecting because I sold cards from time to time. Just goes to show the double standard that exists on this message board from time to time.

Everyone in this hobby owes their collection to people like you and everyone else who buy and sell cards. Seems pretty silly to assume that because you bought this card and were wondering how you made out on it that you are now obligated to keep it forever. Don't let it bother you at all.

Default Thanks for your post

Thank you for your post good sir. I have several people on the board that are very nice to me but a few give me a hard time when I happen to flip a card from time to time. It is good to know my opinion is not out of line.

Im the poorest guy on here.......

I need to flip cards (for some profit) just to be able to buy more for my small personal collection. I ALWAYS hate to see the tougher ones go...

If I still had every single card I owned at one time, my type card collection might rival some of the best lol

But I need to fix my roof too, and buy propane, chicken feed, etc.

You fat wallet collectors have it easy , aloha

Someone cracked that the card wasn't special enough to keep above his post and another poster noted that the card was now on eBay. Seems kind of vanilla to me but at the same time I don't know why it even needs to be brought up. Everyone on here is a seller and a buyer. I don't know why posters need to split hairs. Especially when its of no consequence to them.

It also seems strange to me that someone from the forum would message him on eBay attacking him for trying to get more money out of the card than he put in. No one wants to take a loss on anything. Why go through the trouble?
