Default PSA Grading Question

Does anyone know if PSA designates cards to be "Authentic" if they were not tampered with but may not meet the card size requirement due to wear? I know SGC will designate an "A" if the card doesn't meet a size requirement regardless of if it was trimmed but it appears PSA is more lenient with cards that are just in really poor condition and will give them a "1" as long as there was no trimming, etc. Am I correct with this assumption?
Thanks!

Default Yes

If they deem it un-altered then yes it will get a 1 or another numerical grade indicative of the grade regardless of the size. If the size is WAY off then you may have a special situation but short answer is Yes!

Peace, Mike

Default Paper Loss

The one quick exception I can think of to your example is paper loss. With PSA, even if the card is non-altered/minimum size, enough paper loss will deem it only Authentic and not receive a numerical grade.

Default Good Point...

Great point Dave. I've never had that experience as I usually send newer cards (1940s & up). Thanks.

psa also will apparently ignore some PL front and back whereas sgc hammers it each and every time. If you look at nearly all the N162's offered by heritage and graded by PSA - many had small spots of loss f/b and still received grades of 6 and 7. A few cards were on my list but I knew I probably couldn't cross them. Not meant to be a debate about grading services as the big boys are both good and bad depending on many factors and the critical eye. I'm only making an observation that on this criteria - apparently small amounts of paperloss aren't treated in the same manner.

Default Agreed!

I completely agree on PSA and "small or tiny" areas of paper loss, that to my eye signficantly lowers the grade and somehow the NM 7 from PSA is documented. Really????
