For those who haven't heard yet you may have a new channel on your cable lineup. It goes live tomorrow, but they've been showing historical highlights all morning. The first program will be at 6:00 PM EST tomorrow and will be a Hot Stove League special and then they will show Don Larsen's perfect game.

My wife is going to hate this channel. wink.gif

Watching in Hi-Def, channel 470 on Time Warner Cable in So. Cal. Lets hope this doesn't get all F'd up and pulled from their lineup like the NFL Network did.

The only reason I knew about it was because a buddy called me up yesterday and told me to turn the TV to channel 237..there was nothing on TW's header channel about it...The only thing they were running the last two days were phone numbers to Viacom urging customers to call and complain about losing their MTV.

The only reason I knew about was in reading the Los Angeles Times sports page today, they had a blurb about it starting up on the page that had some baseball articles.

I think I'm in love with this channel already...not only are they showing Don Larsen's perfect game, but they're showing old commercials with baseball players in it. Johnny Logan for Gillette razors!

My channel #280 is selling Gemstone Jewelry
I checked every channel and no baseball sad.gif

Dan, Indeed I will
Though I feel it won't make a difference.
Case in point, I got the NFL Network so I can watch the 4 or 5
games they carry on that network.....But its not in Hi Def here.
Friends that also have Comcast in different areas tell me that
theirs are broadcasted in Hi Def.
I inquired about it and NOTHING.
Will mention it again when I talk about the MLB network.

You can go to the website and enter your zip code and it will give you the channel numbers for the local cable providers if they carry it. It was channel 320 on Charter Comm here in Atlanta.

I hadn't realized that Larsen threw out the first pitch to Yogi Berra on the day that David Cone pitched his perfect game. How weird is that?

I found a new love of my life and her name is channel 280. I just watched for 2 hours straight and I couldn't believe all of the things they plan on covering. Time to sell all of my cards so I can take a very early retirement....ok,I might wait to see how good the spring training coverage is before I do that

My DVR is going to be working overtime. And I no longer am looking to purchase Ken Burns baseball on DVD (my VHS copy is wearing out). I'll just DVR the first 4 innings and save them for eternity.

Just watched Mazeroski hit his HR in the '60 WS. This station just might be great.
Channel 178 in SW Ohio.

Did anyone notice the bit of gamesmanship J Robinson displayed in the 8th inning trying to break Larsen's rhythm?

After the 1st or 2nd pitch he pretended to have something in his eye, stepped out, went all the way back to the on deck circle & actually took one of Hodges bats & gave it a test shake & grabbed the pine tar rag before finally returning to the batters box---never once rubbing his eye again!

I thought that was pretty cool!

I called up Comcast to inquire about the network and the girl said
that some areas don't have it yet and should have it soon.
I just hope I can get it while the trial period is on.

My understanding is that it isn't a trial period, at least with Time Warner for me. It's supposed to be part of our regular package.

Of course, things can always change.

It is part of our regular package here. It's on the digital tier which I guess I do pay for, but no individual channels on this tier are pay channels.

And Fred I noticed that too when I watched Larsen's game last night. Ain't no way Jackie had something in his eye. Loved the crowd reaction to that too.

Did you guys notice how orderly the fans were in leaving the stadium? The lower seating exited onto the field and then out. Can't imagine today having a World Series perfect game end and the fans mildly leave on the field.

Also noticed many players, both teams, questioning calls by the home plate umpire. To me it seemed that he had a pretty consistently wide strike zone, especially on the outside corner.

I loved watching the game, I just happened to check what was on before I went to bed and ended up staying up until 2:30 AM, much too late for me but well worth it.

RC

Wish this were part of the basic package. It's a considerable boost in price plus box fee to get the upper channels in Montgomery.

You're right---I forgot to mention that! The crowd caught on right away as to Jackie's game, and gave him a sound round of boos! LOL!

I also thought it was very interesting to hear Larsen say he had no idea what a perfect game was! Said he knew he had thrown a no-hitter, but the last perfect game was 34 yrs previous in 1922 and at first almost no-one even considered the idea that he had retired 27 in a row w/ nobody reaching base!

For those who will be home at 1pm EST today, please watch the half hour show "prime 9" where they list their thoughts on the nine best centerfielders of all time. I'd like to see their picks on the subject but I'll be at work. It should lead to a good discussion, especially if they ignore the really vintage guys and rate someone like Speaker 9th because of the era he played in.

Did anyone happen to catch the All Time Games epsisode today where they showed a game pitched by Mark Fidrych against the Yankees in 1976. I only remember Fidrych from cards and highlights and never saw him pitch...I'm amazed at how fast he pitched..not how fast he threw the ball, but by how quickly he kept the game moving along. After the game was over and Fidrych had pitched a complete game he ran around like a little kid shaking everyone's hand and then bolted for the clubhouse...the crowd (which was near capacity at Tiger Stadium) would not leave until Fidrych came back out....Bob Eucker had a hilarious interview with him after the game. What a true shame that injury took his career at such a young age. He may have been one of the all-time greats.

Dan- I caught the last ten minutes of it, and I too was impressed with the crowd reaction to him. He was a rock star in 1976, but flamed out so quickly after that.

Yep...unfortunately for him he was a few years behind medical science. He had torn his rotator cuff and didn't even know it until 8 years later.

Does anyone know if ATT Uverse will be adding the MLB network? I have tried emailing and calling but have not found anyone who seems to know any line-up information.
