9-11 is a difficult day for collectors,
our passion for cards can blind us to the
important things in life. It is after all
a materialistic pursuit.I spent part of
yesterday fuming at being outbid on a T215
SGC 40 ($300!! nuts), and most of today
fretting about my 1880 Dukes Heroes of
the Civil War album possibly getting damaged
in the mail (arrived today in perfect shape
from Bob Coviello). I think I'll take a moment
to say God bless and our hearts go out to all
those families in NY missing a loved one today.

I am reminded today of a real Hero who lost his
life in one of the planes that crashed into the
towers. He is on one of the first cards I ever owned
as a boy, I think I was hooked on collecting forever
as soon as I opened the pack. Its an OPC Bruins
Ace Bailey. You'll be missed.

I share the same feelings. My neighbors lost a cousin and I too am reminded of the fact that there are more inportant things than losing a bid in an auction.

Julie, ENVY! ENVY! ENVY!

Now that Iīm living in a country with a wanna-be communist president, I can see how corrupt governments want to hide their failures telling the poorer how the US and Global Economics are responsible for the all the world problems...

Itīs not difficult to understand why guys like Saddam, Kaddafi, Fidel and even Venezuelan president Chavez are living like kings while poor people die every second for not eating a decent meal...

My country has one of the biggest oil reserves in the world and the barrel is selling at recent highs, the president buys a new luxury jet for almost $85 million and we have to read about 100 people killed in the streets the same week.

Itīs too easy to make the US responsible for every problem in the globe, thatīs it!
The US should start buying oil from Norway and other "correct" countries and give Chavez and other arab nations a reason to stick their oil barrels in their a$$es.

Jaime--I traded oil for 16 years and trust me when I say that what you are proposing makes zero sense. First, the oil market is a global one. If the U.S. for some reason chose to not buy Venezuelan oil it would simply flow to another consuming country. The U.S. would be forced to supply its refineries from other sources which would involve less optimal crude streams and higher transportation costs. This would increase the prices of petroleum products in the U.S. and make those high pump prices even higher. That is the very reason that unilateral embargos don't work in the oil market. We boycott Libyan oil, but so what. It simply is sold to some other country and the impact on Libya is minimal.Besides, the Venezuelan state oil companies own several refineries in the U.S. and they don't need to "sell" the U.S. oil. They take it to their own refineries here, refine it, and sell the gasoline, heating oil and other derivative products themselves in the states.Besides, as the U.S. strives for security of supply, the only way to truely achieve that is through supply diversity. To eliminate any supplier makes minimal sense and to arbitrarily eliminate one of our geographically closest suppliers makes no sense.

Jay, you are the oil expert so I have to trust your experience.

Guess Iīm tired of this a$$.... Chavez.
Well, what more could I expect from a man that doesnīt consider 9-11 as a terrorist act!!!

Venezuela has become the U.S. fourth oil provider
after Chavez became president but the U.S. is still our number one buyer.
Cuba is our second biggest customer and owes our country about $150 million, but weīre still sending barrels every day.

I donīt know whatīs more important: Higher pump prices or sending more money to terrorist allied countries.
Instead of sharing part of oil money to help the poorer, our government prefers to help Spainīs ETA, Ireland IRA, Palestinian PLO, Colombian FARC and any communist political campaign over the world, like Nicaragua, Brasil and Argentina.

Hope Elliot doesnīt use the delete button.

Jaime--Don't get me wrong. I find people like this distasteful also. Unfortunately, much of the world's oil reserves ended up in less than ideal places. Go down the list: Iraq, Iran, Libya, Algeria, Saudi, Yemen, Nigeria, Syria, Angola, Congo. Obviously, we have to pick our fights carefully.

look on the bright side, Jaime: Jay has taken some of this dirty oil money and converted it into Old Judges!

Were he a leading collector of Venezualan issues, it would be another story

Hey Jeff, speaking of Old Judge cards did you ever get that group and would you consider trading the two I asked about?
