Default Rare Ball YMCA

Hello,

Was wondering if you guys can help with this baseball. 1917 YMCA ball sent to service men over seas. Comes with the original box(missing acouple flaps). Ball is in great shape, strong markings. Just wondering what something like this is worth, I didnt get it for a steal but I think for a good price. Thanks

A dealer has them up on Ebay from time to time. He has two, both in new condition. He lists them for 800 & 900 and they have yet to sell, and I've seen them listed every couple months, so my guess yours would be in the 600 to 800 list price.

oh wow. I figured it would be worth more than that. Cause i know a forum member sold one and their asking price was $900 but took a lower offer. And figured the box would add more value.

So is it better to sell the box separate?

I sold a really nice one (no box) for $800 last month and when I pulled the item to sell it I had two people who were watching it on ebay with a $999 BIN offer to pay more than 800 so it is worth between 800-1000 without the box. I would guess the box adds at least 200 value so if it were mine I would ASK 1200 and bet you sell it in the 900-1100 range. I hope that helps.

There is a big slump for sales of vintage baseballs right now on eBay. The YMCA ball is a nice addition, and I was even looking for one for my book to add in the "War Balls" section. But you'll never get over $1000.00 for it right now, its a neat ball but lacking the Spalding logo on top and because it was made for the YMCA, people know it wasn't intended for use in the big leagues so it gets an unfair status.

The ball itself however dates to 1920-1925, not 1917. I would put it up for like $899 or best offer and see if you can get someone to bite for $750 or so. Other than that I'd just hold on to it and wait it out a bit.

I tell ya, I'll buy the box from you though!
