Glad to see Luther Taylor get some love...see below...

Luther “Dummy” Taylor Day at the Royals to honor historic Olathean 3/6/2007

Luther “Dummy” Taylor, one of the premier pitchers in the major leagues in the early 1900s and a graduate of the Kansas School for the Deaf, will be honored Saturday, June 30, at the Kansas City Royals/Chicago White Sox game at Kauffman Stadium.

Luther, who was deaf, was instrumental in the development of sign language still used in baseball today. Tickets for premiere seating in the View Level will be $14. Dinner and game seats for $125 in the Stadium Club.

The honor of throwing the first pitch will be auctioned off during National Tourism Week, May 12-20. Pregame activities and a tribute are also planned. The first 10,000 fans through the gate will receive a commemorative baseball card depicting Taylor. Proceeds will benefit the Kansas Education Foundation and Olathe's Deaf Cultural Center.

For information call the Deaf Cultural Center at (913) 782-5808 or the Olathe Chamber Sports Commission at (913) 764-1050.

Well the Net54 board had little to say on this one...

How about this.

Taylor pitched for John McGraw's Giants. McGraw liked Taylor, maybe because he didn't talk back to Mack. McGraw learned a bit of sign language so they could communicate. One day they were sharing opinions about how umpire Tin Hurst was calling a game, but they didn't know Hurst had a deaf relative, so the umpire was also able to sign. Hurst ejected both McGraw and Taylor from the game.
