Default What did you spend more on during the past 30 days: baseball cards v. Valentine's Day gift

I just signed loan papers for a HELOC for a bunch of decorating that we don't need and I don't want; does and entire new living room count?

"Any home refurnishing, remodeling or additions that you do not need or want to have done, counts as a gift (at cost) to your spouse."

Excellent side question (if I do say so myself):
How many of you have used HELOC $ or some sort of cash-out refi money to buy cards over the past 3 years? Would love to know how much of the home equity withdrawal boom has gone towards fueling card prices over the past 3-5 years...!!!

Also coincides with the 20th wedding anniversary so it was time to UPgrade the ring and setting and anniversary band and stone. You know the drill. She's a happy camper - so I'm a happy camper.

We are going to Hot Springs (home of the baseball training camps of almost every team in prewar days) for the night, followed up by a day at the track (Oaklawn-former home of Smarty Jones and Afleet Alex). Counting meals, admissions, hotel charges, it is not even close, cardboard by a mile. I could be cute and say I just bought a whole slew of 1911 Zeenuts from Steve M. for her, but y'all know better...

I suppose in the theoretical situation where she would agree to the actual addition of a man-room (big screen, bar, collection area, etc.) you could say we "need" a remodel, but we might as well be discussing angels dancing on the head of a pin for all the reality involved in it. Of course you have to net against the cost of the man-room all the other crap you'd have to give in on to secure it. I'd still end up losing on the deal.
