The First April "Recent Pickup Thread" is getting long, so it's time for the Second April thread. I don't have anything new that you guys haven't already seen, but I hope everyone else will post away...

Edited to add:

I do have something new that you guys haven't seen. It's a check written by Lefty to the Town of Lonaconing for taxes. Lefty and I both grew up in Lonaconing.

Just another nice T206....but to me, this recent acquisition brings me nearer
to my Piedmont 150 "mission". I just need 5 more cards to complete my 153 card
run of the 150 Series (156 possible cards cards - Magie & Plank & Wagner).

I've recently had a "nice" run on ebay:

This "toughie" came in well, well under budget .....

Two others I am very proud to own:
1 -- N269, Lorillard, Mechanics Delight: No. 28, Owney Geoghegan.
One of those "it doesn't matter the condition, just having one is great" issues. Actual size: 2 3/8 x 3 5/8.
2 -- E78, Anomymous set of 25: Batt. Nelson.
Mis-titled as an Am. Caramel, I never thought I would own an E78, let along my man: Battling Nelson http://s13.photobucket.com/albums/a296/mybuddyinc/Boxing/Battling%20Nelson/.

Nice leon, so I see you were the guy who beat me on that. Interesting that SGC graded yours when last year they called Dan McKee's counterfeit.

Thanks to a fine gentleman who posted here: four of the "phantom" uncataloged Gold Medal cards I reported on in the first segment of the R313-R314 Old Cardboard article. Here are two:

Hi Tim, Wonder if you can tell me if this Cochrane I recently picked up is a R314D?? I read your great article in the curent Old Cardboard Magazine. I havent seen the card in person yet, but from the checklists the only set this card could be from is the much rarer R314D. Also are the Minor Leaguers any scarcer than the Detroit players in the "D" subset?

Wesley,
Nice Kelly!

Josh,
That Joss is overgraded.
JimB
P.S. Is there a lot of back damage? That is a very nice looking 2, regardless of the back.

Hey Jim,

Yes - there is some damage due to scrapbook removal. The front of the card is a solid EX at worst. Unfortunately, I believe when/if I cross it over to SGC, the card will drop another grade. Its a great looking card regardless.

empty pack, no stamp
any info about time frame this style used and estimated value (back is stained with some faint writing on it) No offers please. Just want to make sure my 25 cents was invested wisely. If not, I might have to borrow the quarter Leon uses in his pictures.
Thanks - Will

Well, I didn't pick up the W600 Burkett in Mastro's auction, but I'm pretty happy that I got this. My first Mastro win in years.

Will, Your pack is a candy cigarette pack - not a cigarette pack. So, there is no stamp on it! They are not related to the American Tobacco Company but borrowed the ATCo's graphics. They are from the same time period as the the cards (1907-1915 - somewhere in there). I always thought they were really really cool items and I also own one. Bought it two years ago on eBay for around $20-25. It's in nice condition.
