Default F.F. Baker stamped backs

I was assessing my T206 Cubs backs and came across a F.F. Baker stamped Steinfeldt (pd350/25). I had another Baker stamped card on a C. Griffith port I bought in Ohio a long time ago and recently sold. The Steinfeldt must have been traded to Baker because there are two previous stamps under it. One appears to be a crest of some sort and the other say's "H........." and then "RICHMOND VA".

The Griffith and the Steinfeldt were purchased by me almost twenty years apart in different states so I'm curious how they got around and if anyone knows.

*previous threads mention the stamp but no history of the collector.

Thanks, Eric

Default baker

I have one that i have had for many years and still remember how i said to myself that maybe it belonged to Homerun Baker or one of his kin.
I still wonder about the latter.

best,
barry

Default update

I just discovered that a board member, Andy H., has a website and even contains a scan of my Steinfeldt. Check it out, maybe you can contribute to his research. http://thegreatt206backstampproject.blogspot.com

Maybe Andy can give us an update on his research and shed some light on who F.F. Baker was.

If I understand correctly the first post mentions and additional stamp along with the F.F. Baker showing Richmond, VA.

1318 Mosby St in Richmond, VA was once a very nice neighborhood, now not so much. There may have been a house there at one time but it is currently a vacant lot.

It's probably a long shot but if you think there's a chance Baker could have been from Richmond I'll be happy to look into this further for you.

Default Tim,

Sounds like the best place to start since that would be in public records. According to Google Maps it is a residential/business mixed area. Perhaps F.F. Baker was a corner market owner that sold Piedmont branded smokes. From the looks of the backs posted on Andy's site, the stamps seem to be most dominant on the Piedmont brand.

I will try and contact Andy through his website and see what he can offer. There is the likelihood that it has already been researched through this forum or some of it's members.

Sounds good Eric. Let me know if you find anything out. In the meantime I'll start doing a little checking on my end.
