I was very concerned about large ass...as we have spent time together and had become like family...but...WOW!!!!! Those pics are quite impressive...you must have quite the pull at the ol' ballpark!!!!!

In Large Ass's absense...I took his teammate...Bill Sweeney with me to Israel...we just returned yesterday!!

Here are a few pics of him visiting Qumran where the dead sea scrools were found and one of us hiking near the en gedi spring in the mountains above the dead sea. We had a great trip!!!!

Amazing stuff! You know it’s a sports card forum when the hot brunette reporters lower half is chosen to be blocked by the graded card in the shot vs. Chipper Jones’s back side.

Great stuff Peter that last shot is really amazing.

Cheers,

John

Just wanted to post a quick update - Buck has been passed on to a new (or old...) travel companion who has some great places for him to visit this summer.

In re-reading George's original guidelines this morning, I realized I had failed to
a) post a pic of myself with Buck;
b) re-post the guidelines to refresh everyone on the general rules.

This is a picture I took with my favorite little collector - son Jack (age 8) - who is holding Buck. I'm holding my favorite card in our entire collection - Jack's 2013 baseball card! (sorry for the poor quality - shot was taken a while back with my phone camera)

I took Buck to Wrigley this week. The weather was great.
Unfortunately the Cubs won.
It was a good time nonetheless.
Pictures to follow.

George, that is awesome. Thanks for the update with pictures and everything. Ya'll look like you had a great time!!
I was hoping to get Buck back to go to the National and join the Net54baseball dinner again this year. He had such a good time on the podium with the speakers last year I thought he would want to do it again. Last year he had his own stand on top of one of the cases at our table for the whole show, other than at the Dinner. A lot of people got to see him for the first time. LMK if he is spoken for, for the time of the National, which is Wed July 31 through August 4th....
I would need him at least a day before that. Thanks again for taking care of him.

And Sean, I think Buck still has some legs .......but certainly it would be only fitting if you ended up with him for a while near the end....

Although, it is yours George, so of course you have final say....and maybe he should eventually rest in your possession since you bought him .

I think he should definitely keep going. He can travel forever. I only got him back so I could bring him to this game... and to see the log book.

He is not yet spoken for, Leon, PM me an offer and your address and I'll get him in the mail. It would be great to get him back to the National.

Default a couple more from this morning

At the Bob Feller Museum in Van Meter, Iowa.

2013/07 Bob Feller Museum 1 photo IMG_2059_zps8061c954.jpg

With the last bat Babe Ruth ever held, which happened to be Feller's bat. Babe used it as a crutch to help him out on the field as he made his final public appearance before his death (according to the museum guy).

2013/07 Bob Feller Museum 3 photo IMG_2060_zpsc7bd83fe.jpg

He is now on his way to Leon's. If all goes well he'll be making new friends and meeting old ones at The National next weekend.

Maybe we should have stayed home; Nats lose again to the Mets 11-3. Stick a fork in them.

Well, Buck got to do a drive by the Capitol

And here's the start of the game:

Hopefully the post-game concert is better than the game. Early flight tomorrow!

Default Large Ass Cobb

I always enjoy reading about Large Ass Herzog's travels. While recently looking through some of my cards, I noticed I had a Large Ass Red Cobb card, didn't even know I had it.

Red Sox win 7-6. Umpiring was a little rough... Ventura got tossed. Flowers put one over the Monster.

No. We ducked under cover and waited out the rain delay and saw the Yanks win 9-1. Konerko hit career homer #432.

Got to see (perhaps) the first game with four 400 home run guys in the starting lineups. And watched Ichiro foul off a case of balls before flying out.

Buck will likely sleep on the train to Baltimore. After a day or two of rest, he'll be ready for travels with a new board member. If you'd like ol' LAH, send me a PM.

Looks like he had a good time. I would like to have him in Dec. when I go to the Keys to go deep sea fishing and next Dec. when I go to Cairns Australia to go fishing for big black marlin. He would have fun there since we will be staying on the boat inside the GBR at night. I wander if he knows how to scuba dive? That's in the future though so others can show him the rest of the world in the mean time.

Has he been to Bourbon Street yet? I could take him but I'd probably need to pressure wash him after.

Things tend to get "dirty" in the Quarter.

Default near term

If anyone wants Buck in the near term, send me a message. I can make him available as early as Monday. The way it looks now, he may have another busy weekend in store:
Friday - Kelly Clarkson/Maroon 5 concert
Saturday - coaching my son's 11U baseball team
Sunday - (potentially) Camden Yards

I believe that good ol' Buck has been to 9 parks:
  • Safeco - Mariners
  • PNC Park (twice) - Pirates
  • Citifield - Mets
  • Citizens Bank Park - Phillies
  • Turner Field - Braves
  • Wrigley Field - Cubs
  • Nationals Stadium - Nationals
  • Fenway Park - Red Sox
  • Yankee Stadium - Yankees
Going to try to get him to his tenth this weekend; he'll be leaving the DC area on Monday for his next round of adventures...

I plan on going to the Ty Cobb museum. I believe that will be in November, so if he wants to go there, I'd be glad to take him with me.

Let's hope so because I'll have the videotape rolling! If it helps, I'll bring cards of Cobb, Zimmerman and Stanage too!

One covers the life and baseball career of Dots Miller, who was mentored by Honus Wagner as a rookie for the 1909 Pirates, then became a mentor for a young Rogers Hornsby. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CV633PNT The other has 13 short stories of players who were with the Pittsburgh Pirates during the regular season, but never played in a game for the team https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CY574YNS

This is going to be on ESPN someday...I can just feel it..., and we're going to be the guys pointing at the TV exclaiming "I know about that! I know about that! I knew about it years ago! Yea, it's on this thread called Net54, see --- it started as......." --- and right at "It started as...", the person we're talking to will checkout, only to return once we're done explaining. This person may, or may not be, our wife (should we be so blessed to have one).

Hey Erick,

Buck is a local Maryland guy. If you don't make it to Camden Yards, do you think he would like to take a trip around his old town, B'more? He's part of the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame, I don't recall if he has anything in the Sports Legend Museum at the Yard. Also I am headed out to the Eastern Shore next week and would be willing to take him by Ridgely when he grew up and spent his later years, too. Might even be able to get the guys at the Eastern Shore Baseball Foundation over in Salisbury to open up for a visit, before he hits the road again for his next destination.

Shoot me a PM and let's see if we can work out the details.

Marty
