To collectors of T206 printing errors/variations, this is a desirable variation on the order of a ghost overprint or extreme color misalignment. I think some collectors find the printing process fascinating, and enjoy collecting these types of oddities.

Also, the winner is a well known collector of T206 printing oddities, who has a number of fine ghost overprints.

Japanese card, which says "Chico Borbon" on the front (he went right from S. America to japan--never played here). But the picture is of Jackie Robinson, c. 1955,56. How ya like them apples?

Julie,

Chico Bourbon is from Cuba, not South America.

Its hard to put a price on a card like this since very few exist and this is a very nice one.....plus if you notice, the 2 top bidders were almost $100 higher than anyone else....If anyone wants to pay half this much for a double piedmont back of Deacon Phillippe,i would probably sell it......this card below of HOF'er George Davis,is for display only tho

yes, it is printed upside down

Hankron hit it right on the head. The buyer is well know for his interest in these types. Also, the runner-up is well known for his interest in T206 oddities. Both of these buyers are very good to deal with and yes, it's usually for some decent coin.

I definitely can see a premium for that type of T card. I've owned T206 ghosts and I have a couple of 1948 leaf blank backs and wrong backs (boxing). I've also got a few Topps cards with missing inking on the backs (only the crappy looking colored layer made it to the card, not the stats). They make nice additions to a set or collection.

It is interesting, though, that as the cards age and reach all but untouchable prices, our appreciation of the desirability of misprints and other process related errors goes up. This is nothing new. When I was a young whippersnapper collector I remember people paying premiums for errors on old sets, back around 1975. It fell out of vogue when the new card makers around 1981 started intentionally flubbing their cards (Fleer, especially) and creating those infamous crazes. I kind of like to see it coming back.
