Couple early Christmas presents for myself. Wish I pulled the trigger on a Goudey Ruth 8 months ago, but glad to have my first one in hand.

This arrived today, my first Collins that I own.
I'm anxiously waiting for another card to arrive, it was dropped off at the Post Office in OH, and hasn't moved 8 days

Default December Pickups

Picked up this 1910 Brown Bros. glass plate negative of Ty Cobb from Lelands last night to add to my collection. That fierce look on Cobb’s face is exactly how he played the game.

That's a great picture, but to me the look on his face says "hurry up, I would rather play ball than pose for this picture".

First Goudey pickup! A few weeks ago, when talking about all of the sports craziness, my friend casually mentioned that his great uncle had played in The Show. A few minutes later, and we were watching footage of Joe Judge playing in the '24 World Series!

Set some ebay alerts up, waited, and snagged this awesome example. Very pleased with the eye appeal, and the (MK) is a tiny little dot that doesn't detract from the card at all!

Nice pick up and great story. a nice companion piece to that card would be the 29 Kashin Joe Judge.

Joe Judge (very likely) was the role model for the Joe Hardy character in Damn Yankees.

Default S72

I picked up this S72 for my Louisiana collection. Now, I need a S74 with a Red Sun back.

A while back, we had talked about the various uses for the felt blankets. The back of this card suggests making pillow covers out of these silks.

It would take a lot of them to make a pillow cover.

Great pick-ups Mike, Jamie, Phil, DJ, Dan, Jim, Frank, and anyone else I missed. I especially love the 1953 Reese -- prettiest card extant

December pickups from Heritage, a board member (check is in mail), and Christie's (who totally screwed me out of a W600 Plank and and their consigner at least another 5-6 bids, but I will post that in the Christie's thread). Hopefully I am done for the year!

Default 1914 CJ Cobb

It was a rough year on so many levels, aside from two...getting extra time with my son and watching him grow up right before my eyes, and collecting. This one is the exclamation point and book end to an unbelievable year that I will never forget

A big card for me, on my wish list for a long time. The photo has excellent clarity and contrast. Glad these team photos are closer to modern baseball cards size than the typical early cigarette pack size.

For the win!
I broke down tonight too. I hate this year. I lost my grandparents within 10 days of each other (not COVID, and honestly beautiful) and so many people are hurting and struggling and I have this twist of fortune. Idk man, it just got to me tonight. This is all charades on some level, we all know it. How fortunate are we to have this hobby while others struggle to survive. I just don’t know
