Default Railroad Brake Club ever used as a bat?

So I found a couple of items at an antique mall that looked like baseball bats...1800's town bats to be exact. They were about 30" in length and had the flat barrels on both sides. They were cheap but decided to do a little research first before commiting. They had railroad type stampings on them and the price tag had Brake Man's Stick written on it. The photos are not the ones I found but are nearly identical. Have you all ever heard of these being confused for vintage bats? Do you suspect they would have been used as bats? I read that these clubs were possibly used in the 1910's and that they were very well made with no imperfections.
