Default What are your "hangups" on card condition or holders?

I commented elsewhere this week on being anti-"baggy" or anything else within a holder that covers, or even just surrounds a card (of course, not talking about the normal plastic or SGC black mat). I just managed to get an S74 silk in an SGC holder with no bag, for example. Made me wonder what others would admit was their "hangup" on card condition or holders? For example, I am also a nut on centering, others are not. So let's hear from you.

Very improtant to me centering as well, (unless im looking for a badly mis cut just to have one like that. if there is a creace, i dont want it over the player, and corners should be decent.

I have bought real great looking cards, BUT they has hole punches in them (not on the player) and i was ok with that.

For some reason, I hate scuffing on cards, more than anything. Hate writing on them, also. And of course, trimming and other alterations. Other problems, i can pretty much live with. What I hate about holders, is that they exist at all.

I'd say I'm a centering nut as well. I am however becoming more tolerant of small corner creases or wrinkles that don't impact the overall eye appeal.

I hate marks on cards. That's probably my biggest pet peeves. Otherwise, it's just that I like my cards to have decent eye appeal and affordability, so I can put up with other issues but try to upgrade when it's a good value.

Being an error collector, condition isn't as important to me.

I do look for clean examples of error types..not a fan of messy overprints or cards without borders.

Without a doubt it is clipped corners (I guess I hate octagons but love cards originally made as circles?), second would be obvious trimming of an edge.

I hate to get a new card in the mail only to find the slab is scuffed/scratched. How hard is it to keep a graded card in a protective sleeve? They only cost about two and a half cents each as you can get a pack of 100 for about $2.50.

I hate it when the ad back is upside-down or a layer of ink color was left off. If the back ad is totally missing, I think I should get my money back. Incorrect names printed at the top of the card are also a turn-off.

Getting a slabbed card in the mail with sticky price sticker glop still on the holder. Greasy pizza fingerprints don't help either. I guess I just hate to clean up another person's mess.

Scott, I hate that too. Just send them my way and I will dispose of them for you. I am trying to remove all these from the market/hobby

I had a shop with a partner who was a wonderful guy I dearly loved, but one thing that caused us a fair amount of duress is that he was a stickler on corners but cared little about centering, I didn't mind honest corner wear but dislikes a badly off center card. Yet somehow we made it for a number of years.

Personally, I hate graded mini's... I'm not talking about cards that are supposed to be small, I'm talking about cards that have been encapsulated that aren't as "full" as they should be. I'll take a slightly off-center or mildly worn card, but it better have all of the original borders and not have been subjected to the "card doctor diet."

As I mentioned, I am a nut on centering, mainly for the aesthetics--but also, I tell myself that this boosts the card's value a bit over the book or VCP average. That way I convince myself to pay or bid more. So I get the beauty and the card. But does it really pay off? Seems like it's at least partly true...

Easy one, centering and focus are my pet peeves. Stains and slight creasing don't really matter to me as long as it's not excessive and corners aren't an issue either with me. But if the focus is off or it's badly off center I'm passing, even if it's a card that I really want.

I'm pretty picky about centering as well. I also don't like trimmed cards to the point where there is no border, with the exception of a card that's too rare to wait for one that's not like that. I actually like creases, rounded corners, and paper loss and all that. It shows a history of the card and it's cheaper for me

I'm probably in the minority here, but I can't stand rounded corners. Will always take a crease, offcentering or back paper loss before a card with round corners. And with graded cards I don't like it when the flips are wrinkled or wavy; like they are too big for the slot or the ink wasn't dry yet.

Total hangups are trimming/alterations and holes of any kind.. also really don't like excessive creasing. Don't mind if centering is off a little and am a junkie for sharp corners and edges. I also really love rough cut edges on 50's Topps cards.

I don't like scuffs, writing marks, creases, trimming, holes, or wrinkles. I actually don't have an issue with centering, unless it is way off, because that is how the card was issued.

I don't like creases and am a stickler on centering. I also hate buying a graded card and then realizing once I get it that it has pricing sticker residue or other marks / scratches on the holder.

I am working on a low grade t206 set and my only automatic deal breaker is paper loss.

I don't buy anything that has been altered, but what drives me crazy is cards with bad registration. I've seen cards graded 5s and 6s with registration that is migraine inducing. I just don't get it.

I believe I am working on an even lower grade t206 set and my only deal breaker is very serious paper loss...usually.

I'm with you. I popped this Cobb out of its case for that exact reason. Well, I also think it will grade higher, but I will leave that up to the professionals at SGC. Anyways, the crowded up inner plastic is the most ridiculous thing in the world.... and as you can see from the scans .... you had to hold the card just right and twist it/turn it in the light to see the edges and corners. It just looked like straight poop. I will not buy a PSA card with this baggie thing inside.

Meaningful paper loss is the biggest turn-off for me. Next is probably out-of-focus cards. Creases - not so much, unless they badly affect the player's face.
