Default PSA and vintage cards

Posted By: jay behrens

Julie mentioned that PSA seemed to be soft on grading vintage cards. I've noticed this too, especially with e-cards. I only have one PSA card, my e92 Nadja Oakes that is graded 5. I know that if I cracked this card and sent it to SGC it might get a 60 on a good day, but more than likely would get a 50.

Jay

I just received about 35 t206's from PSA, which were all over the map. I beleive they are having alot of trouble from 4-6, I have 5's that are 4's and 4's that are 5's or even 6's. It almost looks like they mixed up the grade from one card to another. Vg grades are getting much easier to come by even with fairly heavy creases, which I don't think you would see with sgc.
I have never busted a card out of a holder to be resubmitted, but I beleive it's time. I would appreciate some instuction from any of you Pros: Adam, great vcbc article, scott, jay, leon, anyone.
thanks brian

You should see the grades (PSA 1) on all my NICE Old Judge cards.

PSA knocks them down 4 grades SOLELY because they have very slight paper loss in tiny places on the BACK where they were removed from scrapbooks.

SGC would grade them 50 any day of the week.

Yeah Hal
I have some nice T201's which have ever so slight Paper loss that received 3's, while a Mathewson portrait with a crease and well rounded corners got the same grade. I'll take the double folders anyday.
Maybe I should send them to Sgc, further screwing up the population report.
I also had about 15 nice 52 topps graded, and boy did they get killed, the inconsistency is killing me.
thanks brian

PSA is HOPELESS on vintage cards--I mean 19th century cards. I haven't noticed they're much better on T206s, either. But send them an Old Judge, and they just turn into jelly and go 'eeny meeny miny mo."
