Default So... who bought the two large lots of T206s still on the page?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/C-1910-PAGE-...8AAOSwaGFZd5Ek

http://www.ebay.com/itm/C-1910-PAGE-...sAAOSw92NZd5Be

Prices seemed strong with a 8am or so closing time, and a lot of action at the end. Nice get on the numbered T51 cards as well, whoever picked those up. I was the underbidder on the two lots of colleges. A bunch of boxers in that scrapbook as well. Did anyone soak them off the page yet? How did it go? Any rare backs on the T206 or T205 cards?

I only got a single page with some animals and T220 boxers.

I thought my snipes would be good on those, but I didn't even make it as underbidder. They brought pretty good money I thought.

Yes, those went kind of high all things considering. The only way to come out ahead is to hope you can get them off safely, and hope there are some rare backs.

Ah, that's what I kind of thought. For some reason, those pictures were not displaying properly in the thread. Hope they work out for the new owner.

I have had some great success removing cards from pages. I have also experienced, basically, utter failure. I once removed a bunch of cards so fast it was amazing. I put two pages in two separate Pyrex Lasagna dishes and stepped away for a quick cigarette. Just that fast, they all floated free and I was on to the drying process. On the other hand, I have had some that simply wouldn't budge, period. The adhesive and even the way it was glued can make all the difference.

However, what I see here is 7 second tier HOF guys and a SL-er mixed in with 40-some commons. More than a couple already have condition issues, assuming an easy release. If there is any back damage once they come free, it is that much worse. If the winning bidder is a collector versus a flipper than he might come out "OK". Rarer backs could tip the scales. A pile of Piedmonts and Sweet Caps would be a tough hurdle to deal with.

I see that the winner is a board member. Perhaps he could let us know how the soak goes.

I thought it was odd to paste cards with rounded corners and creases on sheets of paper to make it appear as if they were put on there in 1910. I bet there is a lot of back damage on those puppies.

So you think they're fraudulent, Tony? Did you see how many lots the seller had including boxing and nonsports? Didn't seem to be manufactured to me. Calling them all chromolithographs with no mention of the ACC numbers just made me think it wasn't a experienced card seller.

Not fraudulent at all. I think they were pasted onto old paper much later than 1910. The seller's integrity was never questioned.

I agree - the scrapbook finds you want are the ones where the cards are minty fresh; where the scrapbook preserved the cards as pack fresh as possible. When you have scrapbooking done much later, as is the case with cards that are well worn, I would guess there would be back problems as well.

Attach a few really sharp T206s with really bad back damage to an old piece of paper and then sell them as scrapbooks on ebay. It'd be really easy to do. People bid high on the hope and dream that they'll soak off easy and expose a Carolina Brights back...

I did soak the one page which for the most part was rather clean. They were all Sweet Caporal or Piedmont but had two Sovereign. Only a few cards had major creases while there were more W/O than W/ small wrinkles.

The other page will eventually be a display piece so I need to find a good frame for it.
