Default 707 Sportscards - any thoughts?

I have been looking on eBay for low-grade raw 1933 Goudey cards and I noticed that 707 Sportscards has a good selection in the $10-15 range. I am a newbie in the Pre-War arena so I am checking to see if any of you veterans have had any dealings with this seller.

Thanks,

Ed

Agreed....can be overpriced....but who isn't anymore? However, no problems with 707 over the years.

Dealer is solid in terms of reliability. Historically overpriced and -very- difficult to get a good negotiation on "Best Offers". But if you're looking for cards that aren't terribly expensive to begin with, I see no issue at all.

I agree he doesnt negotiate much with the Best Offer.I guess you can price cards as high as you like when you know there are collectors out there that got to have those cards and will eventually break down and spend the money.Other than that the couple of times I have purchased a card from him they were great transactions.

Known them for a long time, seldom bought from them, but they are solid. I actually did have some luck on a Delong Gehringer I needed to complete my set which I found with them fairly priced and they negotiated a bit.

Default 707 Sportscards

I've known Levi (707 founder) since 1981. I have had some great dealings with Levi and Jimmy going back to the Willow Grove and Ft. Washington Show
days.
When I need certain card(s) that I cannot find elsewhere, I drive over to their place and sort thru their massive inventory. And, approx. 90% of the time,
they have what I'm looking for.

Some here have posted that 707's prices are "high". Well, as a dealer myself, I can tell you that buying cards nowadays for resale is not a cheap matter,
anymore.

Solid dealer. I bought a card off of him and I met Levi at a bar for the transaction. Nothing like having a beer and talking baseball cards.

I've had some great dealings with Levi. Very often he has a card that looks far better than others in the same grade or even higher. For such cards finicky collectors will often happily pay a premium.

He is expensive but I think he tends to undergrade. I bought VG from him through Ebay and it looked like a pretty good EX to me (and I tend to undergrade as well).

Levi, his family and Jim are all good people. You will get what you pay for and we all love great deals but there is nothing wrong in this (or any collectibles buisness) with honest retailers.

I've known of 707 for a long time. I don't believe I have ever bought a card from them and, if I did, it was a one time single card transaction. Overpriced.

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I think I will give 707 a try. From what I have read, their prices might be a little high they are obviously honest. For a new Pre-War collector like me that is still learning, it is good to know I will get what I pay for.

Default Long story about a good deal

Back in 95, when I was collecting t206s in general, and trying to get all 16 backs, 707 had a Drum-backed Bender no trees that I was interested in. But for more than I would have ever dreamed paying for a card at the time. I called to see if they might bring the card to the National that year so I could see it in person and Levi agreed. The doors open and I hightail it to the 707 booth to see the card. It was in absolutely poor condition, just as described. Levi told me the price again, and I countered with an offer 15% less. "Let me think about it," he said. He proceeded to finish setting up some cards, arranged his displays, sat down, and ate a sandwich. I stood and waited. 30 minutes later, he asked me what I wanted to see. Told him I was waiting on his answer about my offer. "Oh, that. Yeah, I'll take it." Was the only card I intended to buy and had the rest of the day to look at stuff I could no longer afford. (But I did get to hold a PSA 3 Honus Wagner at the SportcardsPlus booth)

Big Fan. Number one, I think he's a good guy. Number two, and I know this sounds silly, but in addition to buying cards at a card show it is a "card show" and very few people have the set-up that Levi has when he lays out his army of PSA graded cards. Finally, the man has good taste in music as is evident by his various 80's hard rock t-shirts that he is sometimes found sporting.

Default Levi

I have done business with him a long time. He prefers payment by check from me and sends cards before he receives payment.

Bought quite a few cards from Levi back in the late 90's and early 2000's (although not much recently). Good guy, one of first online dealers.

It's a real testament to what a good job Levi does that he can be in business so long and have so many positive references, especially in this hobby-- where so many are so critical. He should be very proud to have built such a solid reputation! Bravo.

My thoughts exactly.

In the history of Net54, has there ever been a thread with this many replies, from this many different people, with nobody saying a bad thing?

My dealings with them have also been top notch.

I have dealt with Levi several times and would recommend 707 to anyone. Honest seller, great guy, etc.

And I, too, dig the top hat.

As for his prices, I have said this before and will likely say it again. Reach out to him and start a dialogue regarding the purchase you are looking to make. A little interaction can go a long way.

Best regards,

Eric

Totally trustworthy. Usually on more expensive graded cards they are very expensive. Not always expensive on cheaper cards. No problems with them ever.

Cards will be absolutely legit, but having dealt with this seller for many years, pricing will be quite high for the grade.
