Default What in blazes is this ruth?

Prohibition didn't end until 1933, yet one of these recently sold for $350 at auction apparently. Is this real? fake? I could find no info out there about it really. Yet some people seem to think it's authentic and one of only 50 known to exist.

any ideas?

Default It looks fishy.....

Looks like it has been through the "time machine" if you will. I would not touch it.

Peace, Mike

PS Sorry Steve, if its real then you have something. I personally would not want it. IMO.

I was more interested to see if it was an actual card more than whether this PARTICULAR example was legit. The information out there about this is....pretty much nothing other than auction house listings.

Oh, there's apparently a Gehrig one too.

I have the Gehrig one too. Sigh. Bought them for like $30 each on ebay. Some mope on Long Island was selling a stack of them "he got in an estate sale." Remarkably they all looked identical in matrkings, stains, etc. Live and learn.

Been discussed here before, though it's been a while. I think the consensus was that it's not an actual card.

From what I have researched over the years Its not a real card, its a fantasy piece. I have seen many, all with that same fake staining

Heres another - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Babe-Ruth-Ch...UAAOSwMtxXs6NU

I thought the image looked familiar. Here's the Wiki page for "The Babe" which uses the same image.

Yeah, fantasy piece.

Using a common MS word font and a common photo with the usual tea staining.

I would pay 5 bucks or less if I wanted it for fun, I will admit I have a fake as hell Herpolsheimer Joe Jackson in my collection. Completely because I will never find a real one in my price range and I would go there as a kid in the 70s and the store has a place of reverence in my mind. I wanted it, so I dropped the couple bucks for the fake. Nothing wrong in my mind as long as you don't misrepresent something.

This bugs me as they are misrepresenting.
