Default Sovereign 350 Apple Green Backs

I just purchased my first T206 with a Sovereign 350 Apple Green Back. I checked out the list of possible T206 Backs but do not see any mention of Sovereign Apple Green. Is this considered the same as the Sov 350 Dark Green Back on the list. What is the Ratio of Sov Apple Green vs Sov Dark Green. It seems to me that the Apple Green hardly come up for sale. I know that there are a lot of T206 Experts on this site so Please chime in.

Regards
John P

Sovereign Apple Green has achieved broad acceptance as a distinct back type. It was printed only with 350/460 regular print and superprint subjects. In part for this reason, it is scarcer than Sovereign 350 Forest Green which was printed with a much larger group of 150/350 and 350-only subjects. My research showed that T206 commons with the Sovereign Apple Green back commanded a 2.4X premium as of May 2012, a considerably higher premium than those with the Sovereign 350 Forest Green back. Anecdotally, I have several T206s with Sovereign 350 Forest Green in my collection but only one [Bradley (With Bat)] with Sovereign Apple Green.

Here's what we say about the Sovereign 350 - Apple Green on our website:

During the production of groups 1 and 2, the Sovereign 350 back was printed in a forest green color. The later printing of group 3 with the same back was printed in an apple green color. This subtle color change clearly defines which subjects are in group 2 and which are in group 3. Only three of the group 3 subjects cannot be found with an apple green Sovereign 350 back. The Joe Doyle (N.Y. Nat'l) error, which was corrected prior to the Sovereign print run, and the later team changes for Red Kleinow (Boston) and Frank Smith (Chicago & Boston), which took place after the Sovereign printing.

This may seem a little confusing if you don't understand the print groups referenced, but once you have a firm understanding of them the production of the T206 set becomes much easier to understand.

Comparing the Sovereign 350-Forest Green to Sovereign 350-Apple Green, the major difference is in the number of subjects printed within each subset. The forest green Sovereign have a better than 3:1 ratio to subjects printed with apple green. If they were printed in relatively similar numbers, it's logical more forest will come to market than apple. In general terms one subject from either back will not be more scarce than from the other.

Big kudos to Art Martineau and Jim Rivera for noticing this color difference and it's relevance.

Default Are these cards Apple Green?

Hi, I was looking for some well informed opinions regarding the backs of the two cards below. I'm going to list both cards on ebay, and I don't want to misrepresent my listings. I recently purchased both, and neither was advertised as "apple green". Based on the pictures posted by others in this thread, I think the Willis definitely is apple green, and Jennings might be forest green, but just faded? Any advice or info would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Illustrated here are the 66 subjects in the SOVEREIGN 350 series that were printed with the "apple green" backs.

Your Jennings and Willis definitely have "apple green" backs.
