Default Questions / wants to buy t206 cards

HI EVERYBODY, MY NAME IS PETE. I JUST JOINED THE NET54BASEBALL.NET SITE AND FIND IT VERY INTERESTING AND INFORMATIVE.

I AM NEW TO THE COLLECTION OF T206 CARDS. I REALIZE I HAVE MY HANDS FULL IN COLLECTING 500+ CARDS THAT ARE 100+ YEARS OLD. USING THE EBAY SITE, I HAVE PURCHASED A FEW "COMMONS" IF YOU CAN CALL THEM THAT. THE GRADES HAVE BEEN PSA 3s.

MY FIRST QUESTION IS - WHAT IS THE BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE COMPANY GRADERS, PSA VS. SGC, ETC?...

MY SECOND QUESTION IS - HOW MUCH CAN I EXPECT TO PAY FOR COMMON PLAYERS PSA 3s?

LASTLY, IF THERE IS ANYBODY OUT THERE THAT HAS ANY T206 CARDS (GRADED OR NOT) FOR SALE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

I CAN ONLY DREAM THAT SOMEDAY I'LL BE A PROUD OWNER OF A MAGIE, PLANK OR THE WAGNER CARD. ONE CAN DREAM, RIGHT??

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME !

PETE

First off,

Welcome Pete.

In my personal opinion there are only three legitimate grading companies for prewar issues (SGC, PSA and BVG). Each of these three tend to follow reasonably similar grading standards.

Again my opinion is that its better to collect the card not the plastic slab that surrounds it. I like to buy cards that are 'raw' (aka unslabbed) because they tend to be cheaper that way. However for nice conditioned items like (ex/5 or better) it's usually safe to buy them in a slab so that you know that the cards are less likely to be trimmed or altered.

Common PSA 3s will tend to sell for about $35 each. Some cards will be more either because of their scarcity, popularity of the player or the brand of back they contain (those without sweet cap and piedmont are more desirable).

As for sale cards I have roughly 200 duplicates ... almost all are raw and most are roughly "Good / 2 condition" --- even though some are better. Shoot me a line if you want to know more or have other T206 questions.

Hey Pete,

A few years back I was in the same boat that you are in now. I can send you my spreadsheet journey to 520. so you can see the cost I paid per card. Although my cards were mostly PR-FR-GD.

Email if you would like to see that info

All the Best,
Jamie

Welcome Pete,

Here are a couple links that will give you a ballpark feel for T206 prices:

http://www.t206.org/value.php
http://www.t206.net/

And here are links that show the fronts and the various back brands:

http://www.oldcardboard.com/t/t206/t206gal01.asp
http://www.oldcardboard.com/t/t206/t206-backs.asp

And of course you'll want to download and read Scot Reader's "Inside T206":

http://www.oldcardboard.com/t/t206/I...al-edition.pdf

And one little piece of chat board etiquette in general is that you don't type in all capital letters - it is considered "shouting".

That should be enough to get you started

Best Regards,
Craig

Welcome to world of good times Pete! Heartbreak and credit card bills are soon to follow. Take it slow and raw is tons of fun!

Here is a T206 starter kit for a backs line or HOFer set:
15 cards
15 HOFers, 14 different (including Matty and Johnson)
14 different backs including a couple toughies (Cycle 460, super nice Cycle 350, EPDG, SC 460,42 and Tolstoi) I just got in on trade last week.
$2250 delivered Paypal works (without the fees)

Once again, welcome,
Bob
