Default My First T-206 Christy Mathewson

Hi Guys.

I'm usually on the other side doing my autograph thing, but just recently I decided that I wanted to own three T-206 cards:

Christy Mathewson, Walter Johnson and Ty Cobb.

I just picked up my first one; a Christy Mathewson.

It's in poor condition (an understatement), but I love it!!!!

Way to go, guy--reminds me of how I felt when I purchased my Pinkerton 1913-1915 Mathewson at the recent National in Chicago. Something told me not to leave without it. It was my first Mathewson also.

May collecting fill you with joy,

Larry

Larry, my collection is 90% autographs, but I do love my 1953 Topps Yankees cards and my 1965 Topps Yankees cards (my favorite Topps cards), but I want to own those three T-206 cards.

Just two to go.

Thank you gentlemen.

I'm going to be selling one of my Mickey Mantle autographed baseballs to acquire a graded Ty Cobb (Bat Off Shoulder is the one I want).

It's kind of weird asking for help, but does anyone know off-hand how much it would cost to get my Christy slabbed as "Authentic" by SGC?

Thank you.

A T206 Matty at $60 that is not missing his face or ripped into two pieces is a bargain...good job!

that's a great price chris, congrats!

as for sgc i don't know if they changed their policy but a couple years ago i tried submitting a lesser beat up cy young and they wouldn't give me the $8 price...earl told me cobb, young, johnson, matty grading price start at $25 i think (which would not be worth it for this card).

Wow - I'd buy that card all day long at $60! You got a great deal on not only one of the best pitchers in history, but also one of the most likeable, gentlemanly characters of the game. I wish I had more money to collect Matty - in an era where many of the players were known for their rather crude personalities, Matty stood out as a fine man.

Chris sometimes cards such as yours looks better than high grade. It shows character, patina, a long journey to wind up in your collection !

Cherish it ! And don't think because it isn't a PSA 9 it's not a great card.

I like that you called this thread "My First T-206 Christy Mathewson". This shows that, while you say that are only planning to get one, deep down inside you know that there will be more in your future.

Nice addition for $60.

Thank you, Ben and Bryan.

They'll be a Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson and Cy Young in the future.

I now understand what it means to get the "bug."

I also observed the number of T-206 reprints. They are an annoyance.

When I search for Mickey Mantle cards, I also notice the number of reprints for sale.
