I would estimate about $40.00. However, there's a few on ebay right now that look like they might go for more. I would put them on your watchlist. That would be the best gauge at this time.

Thanks Paul I am aware of these cards on eBay..As for you Hal. Thanks a lot for having me almost swallow my toung!..I gather from the Shaulk price, that when it comes to 14' CJ's basically all bets are off! The 'list' prices mean nothing, and the folks out there collecting them pay whatever their budget or mood dictate. Honestly the final selling prices are all over the road!..Thanks guys..

Default Pricing question on 1914 Cracker Jack

The 1914 Schalk card is probably too high for several reasons:

1) It is considered his FIRST card, so there is demand for it from rookie collectors.

2) He is a HOF'er, so there is demand for it from HOF collectors.

3) It is a 1914 CJ, so there is demand for it from the numerous people trying to collect that HARD TO FIND set.

and lastly:

4) It is a card that I wanted, so OF COURSE it would end up selling for 19 times its actual value. I am cursed.

Hal, I'd say you got off easy considering what this CJ Schalk sold for. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5164648767

I'm actually relieved I was outbid by rooky13. Anyone know if rooky13 is a board memeber?

Yes, I know who rooky13 is.

Nice guy who LURKS on here but doesn't post much.

He is actually a "buying agent" for a rich client who collects cards...

so he has the best job of all!!

I don't think I'd like to buy for others--sort of like a food taster--you never get a decent meal.

I've often wondered if anyone would invest serious $$ in a bb card mutual fund. Perhaps dividends could even be paid out in the form of cards.

Rooky13's clients are scooping up a lot of cards I like. I figured he reads this board since we both appeared to come up with the CJ Schalk idea a week after reading your post.

A couple of years ago I picked up a 1914 CJ Chick Gandil for $500 + change, I'm glad I did.
