Default Bought PSA card on Ebay, card is rattling in holder, what would you do?

Bought a card on Ebay for 4-figures+, and I just got it delivered, and it's rattling around in the PSA holder. What would you guys do? It's a PSA 8 -- and so one of the corners is dinged, and I'm not sure then if it would just get re-holdered as an 8.

Any and all advice is welcome. I've never encountered this before.

4 figured PSA 8 card that now has a corner ding... the only option I see is to return it for refund. No one is going to be happy about this one!

If not happy with it send it back for a refund. On the PSA front I see no reason they would not reholder it for whatever their normal fee is. Besides the ones with the ugly plastic sheet every PSA card I have ever owned rattled around in the slab.

You know what? You might be right. I never noticed that. I have a ton of SGC cards, and some old Goudeys that don't really rattle, but the modern stuff might rattle, huh? There's another modern card I have that rattles, I checked after you sent this. Is that why there are those little grooves in the holder that extend out but not to the ends, so it rattles, but doesn't hit the end? I was already sort of thinking that, and thinking that my dinged corner could be the reason for the 8. Just a thought.

A dinged corner shouldn't get anything near an 8... but who knows

Always a major let down to receive a card that does not meet the expectations. Post of pict. of the card and might be able to give some better input. I would be curious as to how bad the dinged corner is. I assume the picture that was posted on the original listing did not show the dinged corner. Is that correct?

PSA should make it good. Don't they guarantee the grade? Possibly the corner was damaged because the grader put the card in a holder that allowed the card to float around. A card with a dinged corner is not an 8 anymore.

Does this file show through? I'm not good with the Net54 system.

I'd normally say don't worry about it you bot a PSA 8 so it's a PSA 8 and if it's rattling around a bit thats how it goes. In this case though, because there is no white border around the card and the card printing itself runs to the very edge of the card the movement within the holder in my opinion actually causes the chipping along the border and corner. Based on what I see I don't believe that if this card was cracked out and resubmitted blindly to PSA that it would regrade as an 8. PSA allowing the card to move inside the holder is most likely to blame but what will they do about it. You essentially have an expensive card that most likely isn't worth what you paid.

If it were me I'd try for a refund first because you don't really seem to be happy with the card, if you were unable to get the refund it I'd go the PSA route and see what remedy you have there.

Default An 8 can absolutely have one dinged corner

Depends on the severity of the ding but i have had thousands of psa 8s with what id call a dinged corner.

Most of the damage I see there is in places where the corner can't hit the sides of the holder. So it was graded that way.

OK, that makes sense. I love the card, so it stays as is. I think I overreacted, having read the responses. You all are the smartest collective group on the Internet. If someone says otherwise, they're wrong, because you all are smarter.

LOL, thanks, I can't speak for the others, but at the least, I'm no smarter than the next collector. And I've got boxes full of stuff I thought had loads of potential to prove that.
Not to mention the boxes not full of stuff I should have bought but didn't

I used to look for players I thought had a shot at some career milestones but weren't getting any PR. Like Johnny Ray - Not much for average, but he was on track for 3000 hits if he had a long enough career. Then Japan made him a great offer and that was that. 1502 hits in 10 years, with a .290 average and not much power.........At least I didn't pay much at all for the ones I found and kept.

I read this and as a 38 year-old, I had to check that this was the dude that played for the Pirates. The fact that that's lodged somewhere in my brain from childhood from watching Cubs games is scary. Johnny Ray -- I can honestly say I would have never thought of him ever again in my life, had you not mentioned him.

Given my age, Griffey was very transformative to my baseball collecting and watching. So, while I collect zero Mantle stuff, I think this card is really cool.

The card was not graded an 8. The autographs were graded an 8. Big difference.

Not enough room in that holder for the corner to get dinged. It went into the holder that way.

+1 get it reholdered. The auto grade will remain the same.

What would I do?

I would use a screwdriver to pry the holder open and remove the card.

But, that's just me.

I've thought about picking up that card. Two of my all time favorites on the same card. Is it the dual auto?

Nice congrats on the pickup. It's hard to tell as you blocked the grade on your pic, but as someone else mentioned it looks like an auto grade 8. Either way PSA will be very likely to reholder in the same grade as they aren't in the business of issuing reimbursement checks. It would have to be fairly obvious the card is over graded to get knocked down.
