Default Catchers mask

New guy here just found out about this site and I love it!
I was wondering if you could help me out on this piece? I found it almost 20years ago in a house my grandparents bought in rural PA. I've done some research but wanted to confirm with you.
Could this be spaldings model no 2 catchers mask circa 1889? I looks dead on to me but I'm no expert in this field. I have more pics but not sure how to post multiples.
Thanks in advance!
Dan

Neat Mask and welcome to the forum. I took the liberty of moving your thread to the correct place in the memorabilia section. Happy collecting...

Hi Dan,
I checked the advertising in the back of an 1888 and 1889 Spalding Guide, and while the wiring does look an awful lot like yours, all of the masks offered were heavily padded. Could the padding have been removed from yours? They didn't sell any that were made entirely of wire without some softer protection (and I'm not an equipment expert).

It does have the remains of leather or (imported dogskin) as stated in the spaldings add attached. Who would have thought (dogskin) would be impervious to perspiration!? Learn something new every day!

Hi-
A lot of masks lose their padding over the years. I cannot speak to a specific maker and year for yours, but I can say it is most likely pre 1900 as there does not appear to be any soldering. There are equipment experts on the board who will be able to provide much more help to you. Very nice mask!

Sometimes the pictures of masks on the USPTO(patent office) or google patents show the patents without padding. Hope this helps!
