Of course. And of course the auction houses with the plethora of cards allegedly not sold never provide this information -- except when they end up in the house's next auction or on ebay a few days later. Or at the National a week later.

The main reason why auction houses would not publicize the fact that certain lots didn't sell despite appearing as sold is because they'd have to reveal hidden (illegal) reserves. It's a shame there's no Net 54 dinner at the National this year because, presuming Doug Allen's bellyache cleared up, he could shed some light on the topic of hidden reserves and how they affect the market.

A letter not reaching its reserve at $310,500 and a ball not reaching it at $498,800?

Default T208 Topsy Hartsel

This was one of those cards that I figured would be well out of reach for my collection. The grade wasn't the best but it is a great looking card. Best of all it is a Topsy Hartsel. Now if I could only find an E125 of Topsy.

I don't understand. The auction site says it sold?

Reserve $10,000. Estimate $20,000/$40,000. SOLD FOR $310,500.00
