Default Vintage Small Metal Baseball Player

Hi-
I recently acquired the metal item scanned below and I was wondering if anyone has seen this before. The baseball player is 1.75 inches tall from his hat to his extended foot. This item is also very thin. Here are a few questions I have regarding it that I hope someone might be able to help me with.
1. What exactly is this? I assume it came off of something else, but I have no clue what that might have been.
2. I know it depicts a ball player in 1800s style, but is this from the 1800s?
3. Any additional information or plausible guesses regarding this item would be greatly appreciated.
Thankis in advance,
Alan Elefson
