Great card Brian, you have jumped head first in PCs and smack dab in the middle of my focus!

Ya know, Mantle has some great cards!

These are my only PCs. Not necessarily looking to go headlong, like Brian (great Cobb!), but tough to turn away Cobbs and Wagners - and BTW, PCs have grown easily as expensive as mid-grade T206 HOF portraits....!!!

The group you have now assembled Ryan is just perfect!! Nothing like some rare Cobb and Wagner PCs!! Of course your whole pre war collection is amazing, but this group might be my favorite subset of your collection (especially those two Roses!)

Anyone have any info on this postcard? Just won it on eBay and would love to know if there was a cross promotion between MLB and Dodge.

It was just Dodge and the Tigers, not all of MLB. Great card and relatively rare.

Thanks for the info. Similar to the standard catalog for baseball cards, is there a similar type of reference for postcards? I would like to see what else is out there for Tigers team cards in the 30s.

Don't recall if I've posted this before. Back is blank postcard format and someone has written "Christ School Team 1911."

You bet! Been getting these and other Thorpe memorabilia for close to 20 years now...just now starting to share with others what I have...I’ve posted a lot already on the Jim Thorpe thread. I collect other early Native runners also just a bit and see that you collect Nebraska Native items...I’ve actually keeping an eye out for Nebraska items. Will PM you if I run across anything.

I have some nice Lewis Tewanima and Amisoli Patasoni photos in my Olympic photo archives. Also some of the native Hawaiians.

Excellent items you have! I’m still trying to get a photo of Thorpe with Oorang to go with my postcards. One will come along someday! If you will go to the ‘search’ drop down at the top of this page and type in Jim Thorpe it will take you to the thread.

Thanks! I’ve got the 23 Thorpe postcards that I’ve listed but I know of at least around 10 more that I do not have. Of course...I’ll be pursuing the ones I don’t have...just hard to come across them!

I will try to post some of my Native American photos over in the Jim Thorpe thread over the weekend. I will limit it to pre-WWII which will mean Frank Mount Pleasant, Lewis Tewanima, Amasoli Patasoni, Wilson 'Buster' Charles and Clarence 'Taffy' Abel.

Default Northwestern League

Here are a few RPPCS from one of my favorite early leagues, the Northwestern League of 1905-1916:

1912 Seattle Giants
1915 Aberdeen Black Cats

Lots of Obak and Zee Nut players on these cards. The guy in the suit on the Aberdeen card is John Barnes, who appeared in the N172 set, and started pro ball in the Pacific Northwest in 1890.

Always looking to buy or trade for Seattle and Pacific Northwest postcards, and other goodies, if anyone is willing and able

That it was Ed and hi. You and I have the same taste I know. From Atlanta Crackers to PCL items. I actually thought it was Mark or Jeff on the WestCoast who I was bidding against.

Jay, it probably was one of those guys. My max bid was hit before extended time started, there were a lot of bids that last day. I stopped driving early.

Following is a postcard of Andrew Sockalexis at his home in Old Town, Maine. His older cousin was baseball player Louis Sockalexis . Andrew was 1912 and 1913 Boston Marathon runner-up and 4th place in Marathon at 1912 Olympics..one of the top distance runners in the world at the time..died of TB at the age of 27 unfortunately.

Not all were autographed. I wrote Terry Fox about this set. He said that Ford grabbed a bunch of players in Spring training, took them to a golf course with the cars already in place. Ford gave the postcards out as promotional items and gave some to the players. I always wondered why Kaline and Cash were not part of the set.

Jeff, great job on starting the second most popular thread in Net54 history so far! I think your Brush Cobb is my favorite of all the postcards you originally showed in the first post. Do you still have it?

Default Polo Grounds Real Photo - Mathewson on mound?

I've had this postcard of the Polo Grounds for a long time and I've been trying to convince myself that it pictures Mathewson is on the mound. The note on the back dates the game to Aug. 1913. The Giants played 14 games at the Polo Grounds in Aug. 1913 with Mathewson pitching in 7 of those games. What do you think?

Default Rppc

Love that RPPC, Jim. Dibs if you decide to sell it! Does the scoreboard offer any clues? I tried blowing the image up, but cannot make out any of the matchups and it does not appear any scores are posted. The pitcher's set position looks Mathewson-like, but without scoreboard clues, I doubt you'll ever be able to prove it. Good luck!
