Default How do you get a baseball glove made with your name on it?

Tony York played 27 games for the 1944 Cubs, and he gets his own glove: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3627469816&category=27945

Oddly, it's a left-handed glove, and Tony was right-handed...so he had a complete line

The major baseball equipment manufacturers commonly signed players to contracts while they were still in the minors. Even the minor league players had their gloves custom made to their directions. I have a lot of players glove contracts and commonly the player wrote directly on the contract contract the specifications and models of the gloves they wanted. Interestingly, part of 1930s Red Sox player Dale Alexander's contract includes him receiving golf balls.

Ironically, there used to be this old wheel chair riddled man named Charlie Rose that custom made gloves for several major league players in the 60's and early 70's that owned a batting cage baseball equipment shop here close to San Francisco. I have seen Willie Mays and McCovey,Cepeda and Gene Tenace with is gloves.I bought one and also purchased a "Nokoma" "AMG-400" 2-b glove in which he would engrave your signature into the glove just like the custom gloves he made for pro players. It surely was a psychological performance enhancer. Charlie died at a ripe old age some 14 years ago but they still use his name to sponsor the local little league & high school uniform shop.

In the case of Tony York, I think he got special treatment because the Nocona factory was near where he grew up. Still, left-handed gloves?
