good luck robert - I would inform the credit bureaus on the off chance that something bigger is going on.

eBay doesn't have your social security # on record, so if you change your bank account access, cancel/get a new credit card, whatever else is relevant, you're probably fine. If your cc and bank account are changed, there's nothing for the scammer to access.

Thanks guys. Sorry this is off topic. I'd much rather be discussing cards.

David,

Ebay won't even let me in to my account. I've been suspended.

When I called to ask why, the representative had no idea. He only told me to email ebay's fraud department.
I did have an auction going. Not sure what happens with that either.

Robert

If your account has been accidentally suspended via eBay error, or even yours, and no one has nefariously accessed your account (i.e., your passwords suddenly changed and strange things being offerd on eBay), then there would be no issue of stolen account or related financial issues. So if it turns out only to be an inconvenient eBay mistake, you can breathe a sigh of relief.

When accounts are stolen by nasty people in St. Petersberg, the account usually isn't suspended, but the password is changed. One morning the real user tries to access the account and cannot get in because the password no longer works work. A suspension isn't a typical sign of an account being stolen-- unless the real user reports that his account has been stolen and has it suspended. And if a suspended account was stolen there would be a trail of obvious problems that led to suspension ("I don't remember selling those motorcycles").

If your bank, credit card and PayPal records show zero funny stuff-- no mystery charges or money downloaded-- and you had notice no strange happenings with your ebay account or listings (no mystery listings you never uploaded, no repeated warning emails from eBay about things you had not clue about), it may be that is not the case of a stolen account.

The one nice thing about a suspended account is if you can't access it, no one else can. Bad people can only abuse an active account.

Just one more post here to say that my email address is working again.

If you receive an email from me, it's actually me.

Still haven't figured out why I'm suspended from ebay though.

Robert

lol Tom.

A couple of months ago, someone hacked into my ebay account and changed my password, address, and had started to bid on items. That's scary.

Not sure if a similar situation happened this time, but I'm surprised (a little) that ebay would just suspend my account and not know why when I talked with them on the phone.

Robert (olly olly oxen free)

As I said, an out of the blue eBay suspension alone is not normally a sign that your account has been hacked. I don't beleive eBay will suspend (or notice) a hacked account until notified by you or someone who notices something major wrong. A hacker can't suspend the account himself, nor does he want the account suspended as he can't exploit a frozen account.

Perhaps your credit card on file expired or something like that.

Hi David,

I received an email from ebay today stating:

Dear caramelcard,

We appreciate the information you have submitted, and have reviewed the details of this suspension. After further review, it has been decided that your account qualifies for reinstatement. Please note that, although your account is now active, any listings or bids that were cancelled by your account suspension will not be reinstated.

*Please do not reply to this email. If you have any additional questions, billing inquiries, or concerns pertaining to the status of another account you own, please visit the eBay Help system for information and access to assistance from eBay Customer Support. You can visit our Help system by clicking on the "Help" button at the top of every eBay page or at the following Web address:

For questions or further information about eBay policy, please visit our Policies section of Help at the following Web address:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have no idea what that was about, but I guess ebay has no regard for the auction that I had up at the time when they suspended my account for no reason.

If it was suspended because it was hacked into, perhaps they could let me know?

Anyways, thanks for the information that you provided.

Robert

Appears to have been purely an eBay error, and your account was not hacked. If your account was hacked, I'm sure eBay would let you know it was hacked. If you want to be extra safe, you can change your password. It's a good thing for everyone to change their password every once in a while, even if they notice no trouble. The new password automatically makes old password(s) invalid. If someone you don't know has your old password it's no problem for you. The bad guys can have all the invalid passwords they want as, well, they're invalid.

my ebay account was jacked this week also. they said it happens most when you open a message or a question from another user and it prompts you back to the sign on screen. Thats when they are able to gain your password by some sort of spy program. My case, when i came home and opened my email i had a notice that my Harley Davidson didnt sell i dont have a bike nor was i selling one DING! Then when i logged on i saw the auctions, the guy actually had an email address on there (Yahoo fake im sure) Then i received another email about changing my password so this clown was on my account when i was!

Ebay helped me through live chat and i got everything back to normal fairly quickly. Beware of the message that you are not sure about. Or the when it prompts you to sign in again. You can reports those to Ebay when you see them.

Damian

In many cases, your account is compromised but the hacker doesn't do anything with it for a while. A month or so later, up pop up the strange auctions. This is why regularly changing passwords is important. Changing the password nips a problem in the bud before it can happen.
