Default Stan Martucci

Some of you may remember Stan from his BB Card business back in the day or the string of stores he owned/operated across the street from Yankee Stadium.

My good friend, Frank Barning, emailed me (and a few others) to note Stan passed on 10 years ago and I don't remember ever seeing that mentioned on this board

RIP Stan

Rich

Knew Stan back in the early 70's. Quite a guy. I do recall knowing he passed.

He ended up with all the inventory from Manny's Baseball Land that was outside of Yankee Stadium.

Tried for years to get rid of it all. Wonder if he ever did.

Back around 1970, I sent Stan a request for a 1951 Bowman Mantle and a 1955 Topps Koufax. I put $1.25 in the envelope to cover the cost. Stan sent me the Koufax and not the Mantle with a note saying the cost of the Koufax with return postage was $1.25 and that I could have the Mantle for another $1.25. I must have read his sales list wrong. Anyway, being a hard working paperboy, I decided another $1.25 was too much and declined Stan's offer on the Mantle. Quite an error in judgment on my part. Believe it or not, I still have the note.

Years ago I won a 1961 Fleer baseball set in a binder. Someone had left the name of the previous owner on a sticker inside the binder.

It was Stan Martucci.

Now I know who he was.

Jay- I don't have the card. Unfortunately, I sold my boyhood baseball card collection many years ago. That has turned out to be a regret, not because of the monetary value, since most of the cards were vg-e, but because of sentimental value.

I had heard about his passing when it happened but do not recall where his inventory ended up, although I know a lot of it was bought up by one individual or company as I remember seeing big blowout lots advertised.

As a collector of older hobby periodicals his name is frequently on and in them. Unfortunately I never knew him as his obit said among other things, his pets loved him .

I dealt with Stan a couple times in the 1970s. Back then it was either Larry Fritsch, Stan Martucci, or Bruce Yeko. Good old days!

I don't recall hearing about it either. I bought several 60's-70's Topps sets from him in the early 80's. Really great guy to deal with. As we say "he had the goods."

I like that saying. It reminds me of the old times. I think many times I like the old times better. And a random F272-Unc, '41 Wheaties Dimaggio card...
