Default November Pickups....

I can't find the typical monthly pick up thread. Hope no one minds me launching one mid-month?

Had my best flea market day in a long time yesterday! The mini-haul includes:

A 1960's Pabst Blue Ribbon beer/baseball display. Molded plastic with wooden frame and cardboard backing. Has a list of home run leaders from 1893-1914 and a tribute to Home Run Baker.

-A complete newspaper from Oct 6th, 1920 that covers in detail inside (with a red banner on the front page) Game 2 and Game 1 results of the 1920 World Series between the eventual Champs, the Indians and the Brooklyn Dodgers (Robins).

-1970 USO banquet program and menu from an event held in Beverly Hills, signed by Mr. Cub - "Ernie Banks Chi-Cubs 1970" and some additional actors. Also came with a USO table card and an USO lighter.

-4 Louisville Famous Slugger booklets from 1962 (Maris), 1965, 1966 and 1968 (each with Clemente on the cover)

-9 1938-39 Quaker Oats Hockey, mail in redemption photos - all Toronto Maple Leafs, and two Beehives.

-1980 World Series LP, with narrated history of Classics past.

_Cool, vintage sleeveless jersey with awesome chain stitched name (Suburban Mercurys) from a local (Victoria, BC) sporting goods store and team.

-An envelope of 25 photo cards from the Berlin Olympics in 1936. No Owens in this set unfort.

-2 items from the Penticton Vees - a former senior men's ice hockey team that represented Canada in the 1955 World Ice Hockey Championships where they won Canada's 16th world championship title.

That is Skip Young. He was Wally on the Ozzie and Harriet Show and appeared in 66 episodes as a friend of Ricky and David. He was Elvis Presley's friend in the movie 'Loving You'. He had a few single TV show appearances after that. Served in the Navy during the Korean War. Passed away in 1993 of complications from Diabetes.

Default Mail Day!

I picked up this really cool 1961 Portland Beavers jersey.
It has a letter from Heritage that says "attributed to Satchel Paige".

While the letter says it cannot be 100% certain, it says the right year, right size, right number, and definitely a gamer.

Since I will never afford $100 grand for an MLB one, this might be the next best thing!

In any event, it will look great on the wall.

Awesome piece! I've seen that around and debated on it, but couldn't get myself to pull the trigger. I wonder if searching newspapers.com or similar could net a photomatch. Congrats on the pickup

Awesome jersey I hope you are able to find that photo. It should be a fun quest.
