Does any one know the story with this card (if there is one), and why it is more cartoon like then the rest or the 1951 Bowman set? Did Bowman just not have a picture of him to paint or something?

I'll never forget (as a 12 year old) opening 51 B packs with my friend and he pulled this card from a pack. We
were sort of stunned ! We were told later that Richards was a real character and gave Bowman permission to
portray him as a cartoon figure.

How true that is....I can't say. Perhaps, some one on this forum will tell us.

Perhaps Bowman was testing out a new style of artwork reminicent of the 1938 Goudey Heads-Up series ...
