Default December Pickups

Hit up a card show this morning, and found a couple of goodies. Any day that I can add Mick, Mays and Al to the collection without completely wrecking my wallet is a very good day.

Congrats! That’s a lifetime keeper there. I had one back when I was a teenager but wasn’t smart enough to hold onto it.

One more for my 52 Topps collection. I was hoping that mark on the upper border was just dirt but its and actual dent.

Picked up this Yaz RC for a steal on eBay for $15. Very happy to have this one marked off the needs lists.

Yes I do know how hard it is to find one that is nicely centered. Your card looks great for 6. Congrats.

Here is mine that took a long time to find and when I saw it listed on Ebay I did not hesitate to pull the trigger at the time.

Wow those are some great PSA 6 Gibson’s you guys have picked up! Congrats! Hopefully I get a chance to grab a nicely centered one at some point and not break the bank!

Early November purchases but late December arrivals due to our postal strike up here. I was starting to get nervous that these cards weren't going to make it.

Real happy to finally scratch Ray Murray off the list. This was another toughie for me!

Posted in the Mick thread, but had to post it here also. My earliest Mick. At this moment, he probably had no idea of what would await him in NY in the coming years.

Arrived today after “only” a 5 day delay in what the USPS originally said. It’s been awhile since I ventured this far into the 1970’s - but I love the design of this set...

Got these this past weekend. Had the Mantle LL previously but traded it to the LCS. So I picked it up again this past weekend in a trade.

Love that Koufax. I've been after the 58 for a while, but have yet to find one that meets my standards for a price I'm willing to pay. Yours is a beauty with great centering.

Owing largely to nostalgia, this is probably my most favorite card of all time, so I wanted to get a really nice one...but I didn't want to pay $300+ for a straight 9, since it is such a widely available card. I negotiated with a seller and got it for $55, plus I was able to use the 15% off ebay coupon on top of that. The centering doesn't bother me much at all, as it looks entirely natural and doesn't even come close to bothering my eyes. Other PSA 9OC's (with relatively decent centering) usually sell for $100 (one that is almost kissing the bottom border is actually listed for $325 on ebay...and it's NOT Dean's!!), so I am very happy to add this guy...

Doesn't look remotely OC to me. If it wasn't in that slab, I wouldn't even think about that aspect of the card. Good value.

It seems like the only things I buy anymore are cards with qualifiers that don't look very troubling. I have a feeling that one day soon the huge price differential between straight cards and many with Q's (like the Mays or others) is going to evaporate as the ones with qualifiers steadily go up in price. How long until the market 'corrects' itself as more and more people think, "Qualifier be damned, that card looks pretty frickin' good, especially for only 1/4 of the price!!"

I don't normally post items in pick-up threads but I am really pleased with this one:

The card looks great in hand. I don't see anything to justify the low grade. Not that I care because the card isn't going anywhere any time soon.

I definitely cant see any flaws that would knock it down to VGEX. Looks like 5-6 range to me. Any slight creases?

The card looks great in hand. I don't see anything to justify the low grade. Not that I care because the card isn't going anywhere any time soon.

Nice pickup. Looks like a 6 around the corners...

It's a pretty good looking 3, imo.

Gents,

I am thrilled to have picked up this 1948 Swell "Baseball Thrills" Jackie Robinson card. I know the hobby doesn't recognize its RC status as widely as the 1948/1949 Leaf and 1949 Bowman cards. However, the fact that it was unquestionably issued in 1948 and specifically highlights Jackie's debut gives it a special status at least in my own mind.

Happy to pick this up. Never even knew I wanted it till I came across it looking for something to buy with the 15% off eBay coupon.

Another pickup that made me happy. Has an OC qualifier but I'm happy with it for the price I paid.

That is a frickin' beautiful Clemente at a great price. The O/C designation doesn't affect the look of it at all. Nice job grabbing it!!!

Thanks! I agree the OC does not bother me at all either.
