Default Dumb question about the 1996 PPF All Star T206 Wagner Give-Away

Did anyone win the T206 Wagner in the drawing that was supposed to take place in 1998? Can't find anything about it online.

Yes. As I recall, it was a woman who had to auction or sell it due to the tax charge.

Here's a newspaper clip about when it was sold in a Christie's auction Scott.
If this is the one you're talking about it was 1996.

no that was a Wal-Mart contest. This was from an unopened product called PPF All-Stars. They were supposed to do a drawing for a number of vintage cards as well as salting some of them into packs. We get unopened packs and even boxes consigned on occasion and I just got curious.

I'm guessing the drawing never occurred. Chapter 11 around the same time the drawing was scheduled to happen and many unfulfilled redemptions as a result. Someone probably remembers.

I believe the most recent public sale of the "Score Board" Wagner was in 2020.

Here is confirmation that the "Score Board" Wagner never was given away in the 1998 drawing that was scheduled to occur. This article is from July 2000.

This has been a very interesting thread as I always assumed it was never claimed but honestly always had no real answer to that question.

I continue to be shocked at the prices these boxes still bring to this day and I cannot recall ever hearing of anything even worth more than 5-10 bucks coming out of one.

Does anyone have firsthand knowledge of even one decent item ever coming from these boxes?

So apparently less than two years later The New Scoreboard is defunct. Google searched all the names, phone numbers and addresses and come up empty. Wonder what happened to that Wagner, not to mention all the other inventory.

EDIT: I now doubt that article is from 2020, as it mentions the "Newly retired Steve Young" Thinking it's much more like 2000 which would explain the searches turning up nothing. Anyone know where this Wagner is today?

A customer of my card shop at the time opened a number of those packs and got a vintage Wagner but not THE Wagner (I just cannot remember what the card was). He actually received the card, was entered in the THE Wagner drawing but never heard anything after that as the company quit communicating with him.

My mistake, you are correct Scott. The article talking about the warehouse sale was from 7/27/2000.

Teletrade sold it on 04/25/02 for $54,000 and by that time it was in a PSA 1 holder as 11134970. The next sale I see was on 09/03/20 by Mile High for $1,169,875 and by that time it was in a new PSA 1 holder as 11775527.

Below, the card is shown in the original PSA holder.

So Score Board was owned by Ken Goldin? Was Score Board a scam? Is that the same Ken running Goldin auction now?
