Default NYC Conference to Discuss Hobby Issues

Posted By: barrysloate

We have had several posts on the board addressing some of the problems facing card collectors, among them the altering of cards and the role of the grading services in combatting this issue. We will be having a conference/dinner on January 25 at 6:00PM in Manhattan. The address is 745 Seventh Avenue, between 49th and 50th Street. There will be pizza and drinks served so dinner is covered. Jim Crandell and I have been discussing this and we hope as many people as possible will be able to attend. If you can be there, and we hope to get a great turnout, please either email Jim or myself at bsloate@att.net and I will make a list of attendees...but please, do not email me with a suggestion of where we can find a better steak or where the beers are colder. We are not going there But we both hope this will be a productive evening with lots of ideas and contributions from board members. You may also RSVP right on this thread. Regards, Barry

Michael- two will be great, thank you; Richard, I will have to get back to you on that one; Cobby- yes, we will have a conference call facility but that is Jim's department. He is currently out of town. We will add specifics as we get closer to the date.

I still don't even know how to get onto youtube- I'm always a year or two behind. What do you need- just a video camera?

A digital videocamera is all you need Barry. Youtube only accepts about 10 minute videos so it would have to be broken down into different videos if you wanted to give us the whole presentation.

Awe, commonow - can't someone just pony up for a room with video conferencing so that all can attend?

A webcast and a conference room phone line (for several callers) would be one way to include lots of people. The only problem is the moderator would have an interesting time overseeing the interruptions of people chiming in with their comments unless all phones were muted. I guess that's why a webcast would work good. People could type in comments/questions into the webcast. It'd be like the "chat room". The conference line would allow everyone to hear the main presentation.

That's just a suggestion - don't ask me where or how... it's just an idea that most would probably laugh at...

FYI, google video allows videos up to an hour. Works just like youtube.

Leon- I think the moderator dude has an obligation to attend and report the minutes to the rest of the board. Shall I pencil you in?

A bunch of us went out for lobster dinner tonight, and we came back here for dessert, so I am still awake. But not for long.

We have seven people that are imo 90% likely or better to come with a handful of others still unsure.

We also have a good cross-section of the hobby with collectors, dealers and grading companies represented.

If you would like to come, let Barry or me know please and specify you pizza and beverage choice.

Jim
