Well it's Nov. 18th and there are 32 posts on the initial "November Pickup Thread"...getting a little long...so starting up a new one.

I picked up a new tin for my tin collection....it's a c1918 Quarterback Coffee tin and was produced by The Dolan Mercantile Co. St. Joseph, MO and Atchison, KS. It measures 3 5/8 inches tall and a diameter of 5 3/4 inches. This is the only example of this tin I've seen, and was a natural fit for my collection..I'd say it's one of the nicest tins I've seen, so I was determined to work it into my other tins even though I'm maxed out of room. I had to move out some lesser ones to fit it in.

I just picked up this nice 3/4 size Red Sox pennant. These older Sox pennants seem to be pretty scarce.

Picked up a couple of cool pieces from Pete Gray's first pro outing with the Trois Rivieres, Quebec team in 1938, when Gray was 23:

Hi Bert, I have a large collection of B18s. Each blanket is inserted into a hard toploader and tacked to wall side by side giving the illusion of something other than what it is. It is a basement hobby room and with no wife to complain how badly I am ruining the walls I don't worry about it. It really warms up the room,a great place to spend time.

Brock... That is a beautiful BoSox Pennant, and a rare one indeed. Only the second example I've ever seen (in 20 years of collecting these!) I would estimate it to be circa early 1940s.

Thanks for the info Mark. I figured it was pretty rare. It seems like Boston didn't really produce many pennants during the 40's and 50's compared to other teams. I look at pennant just about everyday on ebay and very rarely see vintage Red Sox pennants.

I don't have anything to add except to say thanks to everyone for sharing so far. I would commend each individually but that would be kind of watered down. All of the items so far look pretty darn neat....I especially like the large pennants...That must be almost half the known population of them!!

Brock... You're right- the Red Sox definitely made fewer pennants than most teams throughout the years. I know we've discussed this before, but the most prevalent team pennants include Tigers, Indians, Braves, White Sox, Cubs, Cardinals and Athletics.

The fewest seem to be from the Phillies, Senators, Browns and Red Sox. Boston is probably in the bottom 20 percentile of all teams.

Thanks Mike, I think I have ended my quest with these five. There are three more out there but probably outside my price range. The only Cobb I am aware of sold together in one lot with a McGraw in the Halper auction. A Collins and An Alexander both sold within the last year but were up in the 6000 dollar range, a little rich for my blood.

I just won these two lots on ebay. I've not seen the Legion bronze before. It is 7"x7".

The Ruth piece was purchased because I have a gem mint example of the Ruth figural to replace the damaged one. This advertising piece in complete condition is pretty tough to find, and $16 is a song for that component.

I picked up the following two turn of the century melon shaped footballs recently.
The first is a Reach ball marked Reach Rugby Match 5R. Does anyone have a old Reach guide that might help me to date this ball?

The second is a darker brown large melon football. It does have a mark, but it is difficult to make out the makers mark. The only portion I can make out is the word Official.

I won this and two others, and scans do not do them even remote justice.
This is Dan Musser, who appeared in exactly one big league game, going 1 for 2 at the plate and playing errorless ball in the field. The back contains the usual Burke markings and address stamp.

Just rec'd this from seller on Ebay. Listed in sheet music and I was the only bidder at $24.99. I haven't collected baseball-themed sheet music before, and would have preferred on with some illustrations etc. Condition is ok. How did I do on the value front?
