Default Ebay and Alcohol don't mix

Posted By: Matt R

I'm not an alcoholic during the week, but when the weekend rolls around I like to down some beers and just be a couch potato. Unfortunately I often find myself on e-bay bidding on stuff that I really can't afford at the moment. I'm sweating out one auction for a card right now because I'm in the lead with one day left and my max bid is quite a bit higher than the current bid. I've got car insurance due this month that I completely forgot about that when I placed my bid. I'm not the type of person that is not going to pay for an item I win. If I win it, I'll have to pay with a credit card and then turn around and re-list it on e-bay to recover hopefully most of my money.

If I win this auction, is it against the rules for me to contact the person with the second highest bid and offer to sell it to them? I don't see any reason that would be against the rules but e-bay is kind of funny about some things.

Why Not Retract your bid? And Cut your CC's Up! And Not Drink while driving your computer! And Read ebay's rules covering this area! And.....Wait a minute? What does this have to do with PreWar Cards? Nuttin'.....
So....
I retract my advice about your bid! And, Send your CC's to me and I'll cut them up! And, I've read the rules for you! And.....Wait a minute? What does THIS have to do with PreWar Cards? Nuttin'.....
So.....
I'll now ask LEON to delete this thread. I guess this should of been your answer in the first place !

Lif's Grand,
Denny Walsh

Ps Have you been Drinkin, I mean talkin , with Peter C.?

Matt,

Do you get enjoyment out of collecting? It seems awfully stressful for you and not much fun. I think many of us have learned the hard way that collecting is much more fun when you can pay your bills AND collect at the same time. When it becomes a choice of either paying the bills OR collecting, it might be time to step back and take an honest look at whether or not this is a healthy endeavor for you.

Anyone who knows your situation and still sells cards to you has truly earned the title of "Dealer".

Please be careful about too many off topic threads being started. The ratio of vintage card started threads to off topic ones should be about 10-20 to 1, at least. There is a blurb in the forum rules about it though it's not real specific on purpose. And you don't need to chime in about how you hate PSA on threads either, at least for a while, we all understand how you feel.

This line made this thread worthwhile.

And it is 10-20 to 1 ON topic to Off Topic not the other way around.

Leon, the item in question is a vintage baseball card. Maybe I should have mentioned that first. This one in particular:

Why not retract your bid, put in another bid that you are comfortable with? The last thing you should have done was identify what the auction was because from what I can tell you have a lot of people who are not fond of you and will now run you up.

Do you say the same thing to poster "Dan McKee"? He seems to have similar feelings and has posted them quite a few times. Are you referring to my post today about the "Nodgrass" situation? I think my post today was quite relevant.

You could always sell a PSA 8 Topps Gary Templeton and recoup $200.

OK, I get the point. No matter what I post everyone is going to jump all over me for it. I posted about collector's insurance last week and had several people e-mail me asking for more details which I happily provided. So I obviously assisted someone with my post. But I see how things are turning out around here so I'm gone. It's funny though, what did all of the people from the PSA board who followed me over here contribute? My first post over here concerned a 1933 Goudey Ruth which certainly is on topic for this board. I was then attacked by the mobs from the PSA board. It's a little odd that the PSA mobs were accepted and I was not. Oh well, I'm going back to my favorite powerlifting board to hang out with the muscle heads. They're a lot more fun to chat with. Hasta lluego.

And just think, all of this ignorance and drama will go away if plifter does.

He stirs up silly things, and then likes to play the "poor me" victim.

I do not really care, but plifter(Matt Ranson), is the same guy who has emailed me pics of some half dressed meat head, hoping it will intimidate me into not saying anything truthful about the way he has done people. Let's not leave out the death threats he does to people via email when they disagree with him.

The guy is a nut(I base this on him making death threats), and anyone that sees this continuous pattern of disruptions on this forum can at least attest to this. He came here, and brought his issues with him. He cannot resist. And as I said before, give it time, and you guys will all see the sames issues he has had everywhere he goes, until he gets banned/booted.

You would think card collecting would be enjoyable, but for this guy, this hobby just seems to create more and more personal torment for him. It's a real shame that the guy is like this.

EDIT: spelling

I have been in the same situation, occassionally, bidding on items when drinking too much. This is one of the main reasons why I snipe everything now. It gives me time to rethink everything when I sober up. It is much easier and less embarassing to cancel a snipe, than sweat out an auction hoping you do not win it, or worse...retracting the bid. (a sure way to get a seller to block you from future bids).
