rob--another nice lajoie...what other lajoies are you looking for?

dr.bb--perhaps all the recent psa talk on the board brought the price down real low for u

in preparation for rea...i'd like to remind all that psa grade trimmed 1982 topps gary templeton cards, steal ur ty cobb cards and replace them with tommy leach(es), and joe orlando would probably kick ur dog if given the chance*...so you're a total imbecelic moron noob if u bid on any card that's not raw on saturday, especially psa cards.

oh yea and i need the e97 psa1 b/w bradley in the mastro caramel lot if the winner is reading and willing to let it go.

*i'm making this part up...maybe!

E103 Jennings upgrade. If auction ended Friday/Saturday might have had a few more. Way too old for Wednesday/Thursday and the need to be in office at 6:00 AM. I do like the ending process very much, just not the ending day.

I wish they would do away with the 2 hour "slow wait of death" between the end of regular bidding and the start of the 30 minute rule. I'm not sure what purpose it serves.

Matt:

I agree with you 100% on the 2 hour thing. It serves no purpose at all as far as I can tell.

I got rid of that "bonus period" for my May auction because I too felt it served no purpose. I don't even know what the bonus is.

Guys, you'll stop complaining about the 2 hours of slow Mastro death at about 3 am on Sunday morning....

Seriously, the two hour period is just a way to get more bids in but is obviously superfluous. That being said, Mastro's auction closes in a humane, orderly manner. I still am emotionally scarred from REA's ending last year. I'm convinced that Rob Lifson is a sadist who plans on torturing me two days a year. Unfortunately for me, I get tortured and am forced to pay for it.

I'm mostly a T-card guy, so I don't see alot of the other vintage stuff unless it;s posted here, and I have to say...I love that Crawford card!
That is one of those that instantly jumped out at me as a powerful image.
the detail in the hands and the shadowing around the belt, etc...very cool image on that one.
congrats.
Jason L

PS - Can I have it?!

Nice pick up Joe...I had a hunch that's what you were going for. The Duffers Yet card is a great looking PSA 7.

JimB- You and me both, friend! Congrats leon, I would have loved to have it in the collection next to my orange Devore but the price was just a little too steep although in years to come I'll be kicking myself, I am sure. I remember when I bought the Devore orange E94 in a PSA 6 holder from Brian I thought I was overpaying, now it seems like the steal of the decade.

My batting average for the two-day event was woefully low. I believe I went 1 for 12 which is a .083 batting average, probably an equally dismal slugging percentage and a...oh well, you get the point.

The one lot I managed to pull out of the fire was a nice group of 15 n300s on the first night. I believe this was lot #252.

Here's to better luck tomorrow!

along with the 75T case ($63k) and the PSA 9 CJ commons (over $10k each), thought this closing price was pretty crazy! ($19,200)

I personally thought the Matty proof, K-Bats card and Old Mill cabinet were great buys.

Jeff - yes, it is another Old Tom added to the collection.

Sean - it was a team effort (team of two) - so I will not be getting all of the cards in the lot.

Thanks for the kind words.

Jeff,

I am so with you on the Wilt/100-point game ticket stubs. I bid early just because I like ticket stubs, yet I pretty much knew these would go for more than I wanted to pay. But nearly $10,000 each? I did not envision that.

I'd love for a collector of basketball memorabilia to check in with some thoughts. Seems like crazy money to me.

Someone else collects golf card on purpose?

Why do I never see old soccer cards in these auctions, the golf cards usually come from the same companies?

Well, they're listening. 1 Hour is better then 2. I still don't see why they can't do away with the wait altogether and do the callbacks an hour earlier in the evening, but this certainly helps.

Mastro Auctions Offers Bidders Another Hour of Sleep!
Thank you for participating in our most recent Premium Auction event. Since our switch to the new and improved bidding process (employed in this just-concluded sale), we've had incredibly positive feedback from consignors and bidders alike. With a defined end to the process, there's no secret or confusion about when the bidding will end, and no "discretionary close" that leaves participants with a feeling of frustration. With Mastro Auctions' system, the battles are fought, the time runs out and you get to go to bed! That being said, our bidders have indicated that one aspect could be improved: why do we have a 2-hour cooling-off period from initial bidders to the 30-minute timer? The reason lies in the fact that some individuals still wish to take advantage of callback service. For these bidders, we need some time to set up callbacks so that no bids are missed when the 30-minute timer is initiated. After once again giving the process a hard look, we've determined that to best accommodate our clientele's preferences we don't need 2 hours to regroup.

And so,

effective with our next auction, initial bids will be due at 9:00 PM Central Time,
and the 30-minute timer will kick off at 10:00 PM Central Time.
We trust that you'll enjoy the extra hour of sleep ... after the conclusion of an exciting session!

Sincerely,

Doug Allen
President & COO
Mastro Auctions
