My condolences to you and your family. At a time like this, we are reminded of how unimportant, in the whole scheme of things, that our cards really are. Relationships and family mean the most and hurt the most.

Dear Ted,

My wife and I were out of the country when your daughter Debbie passed away. Today is our first day back, and I am heartbroken to read of the loss you and your wife have experienced. Losing any family member is painful, but losing a child is inconceivable.

My thoughts and heart are with you and your family.

Mike

Default BB pin-ball machine story.

Deb and my two grandson's [Kurtis and Ron (Zoe's son)] at Deb's Jersey shore beach house.... summertime, late 1990's.

This photo reminds me of one more story that I think you'll like. Ron and Kurtis loved playing my BB pin-ball machine. Seven years ago, Kurt came running, fearfully crying.....
"Gramps the machine is on fire, hurry, hurry !"......Sure enough smoke was emanating from it with a stinky phenolic odor in the air. I unplugged the power, and lifted open the
glass panel. Smoke was coming from the Bat mechanism. Kurt was crying, and Deb was upset. I said "no problem, it's an easy fix". I removed the solenoid device that actuates
the bat, and within a week I acquired a replacement part and soldered it into the mechanism.
WOW ! The bat swing now was so powerful that the steel balls are being driven with such intensity that the upper deck HR's are occurring more frequently than before.

Debbie was happy to hear that this mishap turned out to be a "blessing in disguise". I gave Kurtis a big hug, and thanked him for his inadvertent enhancement to my machine.
Kurtis responded with a big smile, and then he started playing the machine.

Hey MARK MACRAE.....are you reading this.....with this new "slugger" bat swing, you might just beat my score of 560 Runs

1950's United Super-Slugger (the "Babe Ruth" of BB pin-ball machines)

I will close this by saying that words cannot express my appreciation to all you who have responded here......THANKS again......Net54, your the greatest.

Ted- I just saw this thread and I feel so bad for not seeing it sooner. You are one of the truly great guys in this hobby, have always been a friend and adviser, and my heart breaks for you and your family. I can't even express words that would somehow comfort you during this difficult time. I lost my first child as a very young parent, and it was the most painful time I have gone through in my life. Please know this, I'm there for you with many thoughts and prayers. Take care my friend...Kevin

Words mean very little at times like these, particularly from people whom you barely know, but please understand that this community supports you and your family, and are praying for you and your family to get through this difficult time.

Ted..There are great memories of playing pinball out in Toms River, sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning. I think the top five scores were Ron, Pat Roche, Kim Vida, you & I. I'm glad you got it fixed up, albeit with a Sammy Sosa style corked bat. I would aspire to reach 755 to equal the other home run king (Aaron)... Maybe we can give it a workout when I see you in Pennsy in a few weeks, although with Jay controlling the pitching mechanism, we can't forget he likes no-hitters....You, Charlotte, Zoe and the rest of the family are in our thoughts
