Puffy pants would lead me to suggest football. Now if they had puffy shirts that would suggest Seinfeld

Agree with Dan. The button up shirts aren't football.

Tunic looks baseball, pants look football, shoes/boots look football, and the guy standing far right is wearing shin pads (perhaps also second from right and second from left too....). I haven't seen any baseball players wearing shin pads in old photos before..??

Those shirts wouldn't last through the first half of a football game. This photo is definitely baseball. Quilted pants were commonly used for baseball in the 1890-1910s.

I think that padded pants = baseball in 1890's. Also, I'm not sure I've ever seen a picture of a football team from any era that didn't wear a shirt that was pullover - turtleneck, t-shirt, sweater, etc.

My guess is baseball, very late 19th C.

Any idea what the P.H. on the jerseys means?

Joann

My guess is many HS folks wore the same pants during baseball and football season. A key is that football players wore sweaters not button up shirts.
