Default Imprecise survey-19th vs. 20th century

Posted By: Bruce Babcock

My web site shows totals of 2408 visitors to my 19th century card
site and 5509 to my 20th century (pre-war) site over the last 3+ years. Very imprecise, to be sure, and reflective of nothing, but I thought the totals would be more even.

What ratio best expresses your interest level (not your number of cards or dollar value invested) with regard to 19th, pre-war 20th, post war 20th, and 21st century cards?

Mine would be

45% 19th
45% pre-war 20th
10& post war 20th
0% 21st

The Net54 Vintage Links Section sends all potential viewers of your collection directly to the 20th Century portion of your library, which is time consuming to fully enjoy. I wonder how many viewers never note that a 19th Century section exists.

My preferences are 50% 19th Century, 10% pre-1920 20th Century, 30% post-1920 prewar, 10% other.

Many web hits are from google and Yahoo searches, and many more people will google T206 than Old Judge. A lot of T206 googles aren't from Pre-War collectors, but folks generally curious about the famous set, in particular the Wagner. I don't collect diamonds, but out of interest may look for info on the Hope diamond.

19th century 101%

Despite this, I do own one 20th century card, a 1906 Fan Craze of Ned Hanlon, the last card issued for any member of the Detroit Wolverines.

Best Regards,
Joe Gonsowski

I think 101% means some of your cards aren't yours. Just as "giving 110%" in sports means you're using steroids (or, in Kenny Rogers' case, pine tar).

If my finances were a little different, the percentages would change since I would buy some more prewar or Negro League stuff to add, upgrade or fill holes, but the slant would still be very heavily toward the 19th century.

I have never much cared for or about 19th century materials. My favorites are the cards issued from 1900-1945.
