Default Brick and mortar card shops- Net54 resource project

A few days ago our valued board member, Donny M., emailed me about potentially making a place in our resource lists, on Net54baseball.com, for a directory of brick and mortar card shops around the country. I think it's a good idea. I am close to 100% certain we can put it somewhere. So with that being said I think what we need is something like

1. Name of shop
2. Address
3. Phone #
4. hours of operation (if you know them)
5. a very brief description of what they have....

Many of the things we have done on this board come from suggestions from our great (in the best sense of the word) members. I remember when our BST was getting cluttered with ebay auctions on all of the pages....then Greg S. sent me a note suggesting they have their own place...and that small problem was solved. I/we always appreciate good suggestions. (jumping off a cliff is not a good suggestion )

ps...recently Brian M updated all of the other pages on the board to have a similar header look...... I want to publicly thank him for that. It's been a banner (pun intended) year for our board and I think the transition from the old one to the new one, albeit with a bit of angst and trepidation, was a very good move. It's sort of like going to the dentist (sorry about that for the dentists on the board) as most folks don't like to go but when you leave the dentist's office you feel better about it.....best regards

Default Staten Island Sports Cards

I guess I will get it started:

1. Staten Island SportsCards
http://www.sisportscards.com/
2. 27 Seguine Avenue
Staten Island, NY 10309-3700
3. (718) 967-7171
4. Hours: Monday-Friday 11-7
Saturday 11-6
Sunday 11-3

5. I will try to find out more info than I already have but so far it is the only store with a hint of vintage I have found in Staten Island. I came in there looking for graded card protectors and started conversating with the owner, who is a really nice guy. We started talking about vintage cards and he pulled out a pile of 1933 and 1934 Goudeys he just acquired. I also believe he is a noted EBAY seller, but as I said I will get more info and share with the board.

Should we stipulate that these shops must carry pre-war vintage?

Default thanks

Thanks Rob.....I think this is enough info on this store. I thought this would be a good resource for the board but if very few respond then maybe folks don't really care. No harm in trying...it costs nothing, takes up almost no room and eats very little .

I dunno....I think all card shops would be ok. The very brief description should help....maybe something like:

"90% modern 10% vintage, and wear a gas mask as the owner smokes in the shop ."

That way if folks would need to travel for 5 minutes it might be worth it but if they have to travel an hour, then a phone call first might be in order.....and if they are allergic to smoke they might skip this one altogether!!

Not sure of hours. Used to deal in vintage cards - not sure if that's still the case. Also has lots of autographs and sometimes has autograph guests.

What about listing the the larger, local card shows? We have ones here (Long Island) twice a year similar to those in White Plains and while they are not overrun with vintage pre-war, five or six dealers usually have a good selection. Just a thought.

Default Largo/Clearwater/St. Petersburg/Tampa Florida

Baseball Card Co

1901 West Bay Drive, Largo, FL
(727) 581-2974
Hours: TBD (can't remember)
Inventory: Large selection of post-war vintage cards (50's-70's). Especially good for set builders as he has binders and binders full of commons to pick from. A small amount of pre-war vintage cards. Also carries new cards.

P.S. - I think the list should definitely include stores that carry post-war stuff as many folks here collect both pre-war and post-war vintage material. I wasn't expecting to find many pre-war dealers (I do that online), but I'd love to find some dealers close by who have a good selection of 50's and 60's stuff. Thanks!

We already have this in our links section...

http://net54baseball.com/forum/conte...tagelinks.html

If anyone wants to update something all they have to do is shoot me an email. ALSO, our calendar is open for all members to utilize. The new board has features that many folks don't use but they are there....nice suggestion though .

Hey Jon,

I grew up a few blocks from Hot Corner, used to go their all the time. I think they mostly have post-war these days and as you said autographed items. Unfortunately IMO I think the prices are way out of line.

I had no idea those links were there! I'll send along details for the two Long Island Nationals in a bit. I think I need to look at the site features in details soon....

geez Rob - you are in my old neck of the woods. And not too far from where I live now.

Next time I am at Certos getting a mortadella sandwich.... I will stop in and say hello.

edit: I think I may have misread and was thinking the store was your store. I recommend you stop in Certos during your next visit and get a sandwich and stuff.
