Default Reverse (Backward) Ghost Image ...

Posted By: Scott Gross

I was thumbing through a recent lot purchase of e90's and I came upon this Wallace. Although I'm not a ghost-hunter, I thought is was neat. Then I realized (being as dyslexic as you can get), the ghost was reversed. Having read many treads on this board on "ghosts" I agree most are made from two wet sheets being place on top of each other, or some other print error. BUT, how do you get a reverse ghost ????

As you can see (imho), it's a normal card (no proof lines, no hand cut, normal ad back, etc.)

Thoughts ... Opinions ... Comments ... Answers ??????

If you can sue a band for making you want to commit suicide, can I sue Barry Manilow for turning me into a wuss in the 70s?

Hi Scott,

I'm working on the e90-1 set too. I saw this post earlier and was waiting for the scans , but I don't see a "ghost" image. Maybe the scanner is not showing it?

edited to add.. The back looks like it has minor staining. I guess it could be from another card from another sheet, but it looks like age/wear to me. I dunno.

2nd edit... thats the card 'bleeding' thru the paper I think. GL

3rd edit- poltergeist, I can't explain it

Perhaps I'm missing something, but wouldn't the image have to be reversed if it's a result of the top sheet of cards being laid on top of a wet sheet? I presume both sheets are facing in the same direction.

it's a wet sheet transfer. The image will always be reversed from a wet sheet transfer.

Thanks, Glenn and Jay ...

The answer is so simple and common sensed it's mind boggling (even to my mind boggled mind ...)

Now I'm off to figure out those darn upside-down Cracker Jacks ...

Haven't decided on card's future, probably hold it for now.

...the detail in the ghost is too good for it to be explained by a wet sheet transfer? Wet sheet transfers are never even, often splotchy and do not have the kind of detail present here. I agree it explains the reverse image, but it raises questions about detail.

Not too much detail for a wet sheet transfer.

Look at my web site on the "freaks and geeks" page for a wet sheet transfer 1949 Leaf Warren Spahn if you want to see a great one.

Jim Jeffries and you can see how the image reverses.
