Default 1954 Bowman Ted Williams?

Can anyone help me understand the story behind the 1954 Bowman Williams card?

Ted Williams had an exclusive contract in 1954 with Topps. When Bowman started distributing Ted Williams cards that year, Topps either filed a lawsuit or threatened to file a lawsuit, and Bowman pulled the card from the set, making it scarcer than the other cards in the 1954 Bowman set.

Default Piersall

Wasn't Piersall Ted's "replacement" card in that set?

Hi Adam,

I know what you mean...I grew up in the hobby thinking of this card as "scarce".

Of course we all now realize these cards are far from scarce. PSA alone has graded 778 of the '54 Bowman Williams. A far cry from scarce. A heckuva lot fewer than the 2200 Mantles they have graded from the same set though.

Cheers,
Blair

I am wondering if I should sell mine while the price is still high and before everyone realizes it's not very rare.

I'll trade you for some scarce 1989 Upper Deck Griffey Jr. Rookies if you want to get that common card out of your collection.
