Steve,
Nice card...gotta love the horizontal pose.

This one just came in the mail yesterday and I posted it on the 1st November thread. It looks better in person. IMO, the player in the center looks very much like a young Johnny Evers. I don't think the date of the photo(early 1900's?) matches with the age Evers would be not to mention the catcher's mit so it's highly unlikely but still a nice looking photo.

The guy that looks like Evers looks to be wearing a first baseman's glove.

Dan,
Thanks for the pick up on that. It did not register with me for some reason...I've looked at this several times and keep thinking that it does bear a striking resemblance to him....regardless I'm happy with it and my first vintage photo pickup! Take care.

Matt, I haven't received the card yet but won it on ebay from Charlie B. Perhaps he can shed some light on it.

I can't decide if I should keep branching out or just stick with signed T206 cards, but here's my first signed T205.

You might say things are looking Upp for you these days!

I love the Morris Jr. and Sr! You beat me out on these two - I was watching them as well!

Hopefully that means one less person competing with me next time they become available....

Tony that Upp is a killer. Anyone whoever put together the set card by card and so who knows how tough that card really is, is blinking to clear his eyes at how nice it is. Congrats. private sale or auction?
It always makes you feel good when you can win a card wire to wire and your sniper doesn't need to come in to play. Thanks to anyone who let me win this at a very decent price.

Thanks TBob -
Mr. Upp came from a group of cards won in Lew Lipset's recent auction.
There were some exceptional E90-1's in his auction this year, this being
just one of them.

Hello - been reading this site for quite some time and absolutely love the topics discussed here. I put down my collection more than 15yrs ago, but recently sent all my tobacco/caramel cards off to SGC for grading. Very pleased with their service and professionalism...a few samples:

Matt and Leon, great to meet you. My main research and collecting after the cards was Bazooka Joe comics and related items, including the early history of Topps. Sorry a little O/T...

Ah! An early Bazooka Topps enthusiast! I am wondering, sir, if you have a scan of the Willard Mullin cartoons from the back of the late 40's Bazooka wrappers you might be able to share. Excellent photo by the way.

great stuff. thanks for sharing. That 4 Bender is amazing - what the heck is wrong with it? -does it have no back?!

And you mention that you have research early Topps history? Any interesting anecdotes, facts, or stories to share? documents, etc? Anything relating to player contracts or exclusivities? would love to hear those types of things relating to company history, etc....(If that is what you meant in your prior post)

Thanks again!
and welcome.

These topless beauties will will never see the inside of slab, but for about $5 a card (I love eBay!), I am close to one of my collecting goals, which is getting all the members of the Gashouse Gang issued in the 1934-36 Batter-Up set ...

Dave – I have quite a few Bazooka Atom wrappers with various Willard Mullin sport comics on the reverse – will try to get some scans up.

Jason – that’s the sharpest Bender at a 4 you’ll find. The back is immaculate – I believe the grade comes from several minute areas of paper loss on the front – very small, probably from when it was pulled from the package. I’m going to dig around in the collection this weekend – I’ll see what I can come up with for Topps info. Will likely post in the post-WWII board though, I’ll let you know. Thanks!
