Default March Pick-Ups

New month, new pick-ups.

Sorry to start this thread with a fairly pedestrian card; however, it does have some personal significance.

My wife and I are building a '59 Topps set together...an awesome experience, to say the least

We picked up this high number at a show today.

Have a great month, everyone.

Best Regards,

Eric

Kind of sad that his rookie card is so underrated! he was a star in the late 60s through past the mid 70s one of a short list of left handers to win
20 or more games 4 times in ML Baseball

Default 1959 Topps

This set is a sentimental favorite of mine because it was the first Topps set I finished.

Very neat that you and your wife are building it together Eric. How far along are you ?

I'll keep with the 59 Topps theme...both my brother and I are now going for our own sets...I've got a head start on commons, he has me beat on stars. I bought this today to try and catch up...

Also winding down my 57 set...just picked this card up, what a classic. Just like Mike Cuellar, another under rated rookie card, and a HOF no less. Loving the 57s...

OK...I just noticed...Topps spelled Cuellar wrong on that card!! "Cueller" is not with an "e", but with an "a" at the end...has that ever been noticed??? It isn't mentioned in my checklist/price guide I use...and to make sure I didn't make a second mistake on this thread I wikipedia'd Mike to make sure...UER?

Topps misspelled Mike Cuellar's name in 1959 and again in 1975. Both are uncorrected errors.

Default picked up a Schmidt rookie

1972 Puerto Rican League Sticker - - - the card was actually better than I expected after buying on ebay. I certainly paid for it, but it was a glaring hole in my collection, at least in my opinion!!

I made a big purchase at the local card shop and these 3 were a part of it. The Gehrig and Adcock are available for trade. My need lists are all over the B/S/T section...

Thanks! I had to grab that Nagashima for display next to Oh. Now I just need to keep myself from getting addicted to these Menkos because with 50+ other Oh rookies (among other HOFers) it could become an endless obsession quickly.

Upgraded my 52 Minnie.....bummed at the MC designation. Anyone know psa criteria for miscut cards? seems I see a lot worse without the mc.

The miscut is likely due to centering on the back of the card. I only see the front of the card, and the front is not miscut. Personally, I do not mind a miscut since I can usually get the card a great price. If I understand the MC designation, the printing on the back of the card ( in this case ) will be cut off in some degree or another. This is different than an OC or off center in which the complete back is present, but OC for the grade of the card. I hope this helps.

A punk call if you ask me. I see a very very slight miscut on the front, so wouldn't the back be the same? In other words, how could any print on the back be cut off?

David, can you supply an image of the back of the Minoso for us to see. That should resolve the MC designation. The fronts and backs were printed separately and prone to centering problems after being cut.

I've got plenty of cards with mismatched front and back centering.. I just wish they had MC or OC assigned due to the backs instead of the fronts

Yup! You nailed it Lou. The back is technically very slightly miscut. Oh well I pop em out of the tombs anyway. I think I'll keep this one. Dave.

Love the Schmidt sticker. I was born in 1972 and live in SE Pennsylvania, so I have always been a Schmidt fan. I am not really a sticker collector, but that Schmidt item has been on my want list for a while now because it is so rare compared to his '73 Topps card.

Got this "beauty" recently. While the grade could literally not be any lower, I still like it. Only 24 of these graded by PSA at all, which is pretty darn rare for ANY Mantle.

Picked up a couple more Mantles...nothing from Venezuala, lol, but great for my sets! (Nice card btw...I tinkered with the thought of going for the 66 Topps Venezuala set...)

And here is a new scan of the 59 I picked up...love this card although my 57 is my favorite...

Not exactly cards. And the condition isn't great, but they should fit nicely in my collection..

I was looking hard at those two on Ebay. Even bid on the Ashburn. Glad to see it went to a good home.

I'm honestly surprised that I even ended up winning 'em. I had family business to take care of, so I had to put my bids in with about an hour left. I was certain I would be outbid while I was out. Heck, I probably overpaid for the Ash, especially considering the condition, but I'm not worried about it..

The Wynn the seller had was pretty sharp.

As far as I know they're both 1948.

You're right, Dave, both are 1948. I just checked the SCBC. That's the earliest item for Ashburn.

You know me so well by now. Gorgeous card and a great pick up. The colors look amazing compared to my BVG 1.

Very neat that you and your wife are building it together Eric. How far along are you ?
Al,

So sorry that I missed your post.

Wy wife and I are at a relatively paltry 26/572 for '59 Topps; however, have picked up a few decent ones along the way so far.

We are also putting together a '55 Topps set...94/206 on that one.

Have a great weekend.

Best Regards,

Eric
