Default Wanted Baseball Books // Will trade baseball cards for books

Posted By: Max Weder

As always, I am looking for early and unusual baseball books, including the following:

With or without dust jacket

Thouey, Boston Base Ball Club
Ward, Baseball
Ward, How to Become a Ball Player
Pfeiffer, Scientific Baseball
Cobb, Busting Em
Flood, Splendid Splinter
Everett, Thine Not Mine

Need a copy with dust jacket

McGraw, My 30 Years in Baseball
Chance, Bride and the Pennant
Barbour, several titles
Heyliger/Hawley Williams several titles
Beaumont Hearts and the Diamond
Mathewson Won in the Ninth, any of the Matty Dodd Mead books
Scott, Third Base Thatcher in dj
other early fiction in dust jacket

Let me know what you have, as there are many other titles I need. As well as cash, I have a number of interesting cards available for trade, including a Gypsy Queen of Dailey.

Thanks,

Max

interesting PCL book 'authored' by Jimmie Reese and Lefty O'Doul. Lots of info on the PCL as well as current and retired major leaguers of the day

Hi Max,

Is there a guide to baseball books and their relative values and/or difficulty?

Thanks, Paul

Paul

Any price guides to books are generally wildly inaccurate. There are several good bibliographies (Grobani, 1972; McCue Baseball by the Books for fiction) but they don't deal with value or scarcity.

Barry Sloate is very knowledgeable and published an article in VCBC 7 on the early baseball books

There are a few very good baseball book dealers--Bobby Plapinger in Ashland OR and Wayne Greene in NYC--who put out catalogues.

If you ever have a question about scarcity or value of a book, send me an email and I'll do my best to answer

Max

Barry

Hopefully not a freudian slip on my part--- wasn't #7 the issue that dare not be mentioned?

Anyway, your article in #3 was great

Max
(waiting patiently for the dust jacketed Won in the Ninth)

VCBC #7 is the one that is hard to find, and it contains the article on card restoration.
