Default Q for MVSNYC (or others) - What is "the 25 card collection"

Posted By: Craig W

Greetings-

My apologies if this is a dumb question, but I saw in your post

http://www.network54.com/Forum/153652/message/1200927232/

that you referred to "the 25 card collection". As I am new to vintage card collecting and this forum, I was wondering if this was a list of the top 25 cards in the hobby and what it is comprised of? I'd assume Wagner, Magee, Plank, '52 Mantle, '33 Ruth to start with.

Thank You & Best Regards

-Craig

Note to Mr Leon - Great Forum!

Craig, the '25 card collection' is just Mike's rationalization for selling off his last 5 cards. Prior to the sales, he was a strong proponent of the '30 card collection.'

Hi Jeff,
You are right... If I call Sarno right now and sell him 25 rare backs( Drums, Uzit, Red Hindu, etc.) than it would be a "50 card" collection.
Be well Brian

PS We Luv Ya Mike.....

PS 2 I just had a great Steak and a few Beers..

"it's basically a hedge fund"...

NOT at all Matt...i actually know nothing about finance, i'm a designer.

i have collected Vintage for about 20 years, and have owned 100's & 100's of cards...2 years ago i decided to sell almost all of it, and focus on quality...rare backs, tuff variations, super high-grade, etc...a few dozen cards, give or take. a few fellow collectors i know adopt a type of collecting that focuses on quality and limits the number of cards you own (you make up the number yourself, it's actually quite random)...but the idea is that you try to keep it to that number. some people even take it a step further and if they acquire 2 new pieces, they'd force themselves to sell 2 pieces...so this process makes you keep the best of the best...makes for an extremely well fleshed-out and "tight" collection.

brian- steak & beer sounds awesome...i have a 9:15pm reservation at the Waverly Inn, in the west village...impossible to get a table, but i won them over with my charm

BTW Craig- the cards can be whatever you want, whatever you are into...it doesn't refer to the big cards of the hobby (Mantle, Ruth, etc), that you elluded to.

p.s. hi jeff...when are we doing drinks or dinner?

Michael- I can easily explain to you what a hedge fund is. It's money you put aside to pay the gardener to clip your hedges (I think that's what it is).

Mike -- I have a trial coming up in 3 weeks; if I get a severance (which I may), we are going out to celebrate my (temporary) freedom asap!

Hi Michael,
Chaming?? Yes, I'll buy that... The Beer talking.. smiley.
And, Yes Barry it was the best Med-Rare to Rare T-Bone I have had in a month. In fact, it might be the only red meat I've had in the last month.
Medical issues...

Be well Brian

PS Jeff, see you at the UNC/Duke game.....
